I hope my SSN is not in there.
I'm pretty sure it's illegal to have any sort of SSN on a valid driver's license, I "think" that went away about 20 years ago.

Is not in my drivers license, but NOT sure what kind of information is in the magnetic tape or in the bar codes.

In most states pharmacies use a tracking system called MethCheck, which uses your DL info to track how much pseudoephedrine a customer purchases:

After the Combat Methamphetamine Act was passed in 2005, pharmacies had a growing need for a robust, real-time compliance tool for tracking methamphetamine precursor transactions.
Last time I purchased some was a few years ago in Texas and they manually logged the info from my DL for entry into the system. Probably they now digitally scan it.

Cough medicines don't contain alcohol anymore. The reason you see the bottles of cough syrup is because some contain an ingredient that is used to supress cough called Dextromethorphan (DXM) that causes a high when taken in large doses. Many kids will drink the whole bottle at once. They call it "Robotripping," in reference to the brand Robitussin.

Well, this lady scanned my Drivers License in some sort of machine, and here is my question.
Are they supposed to scan my ID and keep my information somewhere?
If you were purchasing pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) then that is the norm now. Depends on the state, I suppose. But yes, they do scan your info and license. As an allergy sufferer I hate it! I always feel like I'm under scrutiny for purchasing Sudafed!

They asked for your SSN? That is not normal. You need to get it from the pharmacist and show ID.

They do. When the law first passed in Texas they had to keep a manual log. That was a nightmare for the pharmacies, as you can imagine. It's all digital now.
