I grew up in the Methodist church and Presby church. Neither taught that the bible was the LITERAL word of God. We know that the bible was written by men; some taught that it was God speaking through the writers; some teach that it is the writing of different men, in different times, describing God and Jesus.
I never attended a church that preached literal interpretation of the bible.

It really isn't, especially these days. They tend to emphasize the Old Testament and the letters from Paul but de-emphasize the teachings of Christ. The focus on whatever they believe will give them political leverage.
There's nothing quite like combining biblical inerrancy, young eartherism and capitalism together.
Where else but the Ken Ham Creationist Museum or his Ark Encounter can you feast your eyes on a little boy riding a dinosaur like he's a kid in Bedrock. Ya just gotta believe (and dig into your jeans for some $ green).
