The military could announce that due to costs, military insurance would no longer be covering procedures and medications for non-readiness matters such as sexual reassignment surgery and Erectile Dysfunction medications.

Problem solved.

Well, maybe.

When I served, there was a phrase of "The harder you let them play, the harder they will fight.".

It's perhaps sexist to say, but I see more of a readiness reason for ED treatments than sexual reassignment surgery.

lol

Erectile dysfunction can be the side effect of PTSD. Treating somebody with ED is not the same as giving soldiers free cosmetic procedures. Viagra is not given to random soldiers so that they can have sex with 50 different girls per night.

Advocates For 'Equal Rights', know that EQUAL right means EQUAL, no exception.

If you allow somebody to serve openly as a transgender, sorry to break it to you, military IS responsible for their treatment. You cannot just tell them, "Stop taking hormones when you are in the combat zone." Their doctors make that decision. This is exactly why people with certain pre-existing conditions are considered liability to the military.

It takes time to study the impact of allowing them to OPENLY serve in the military. I think military should make that decision.

The fact the President-for now did not inform the Defense secretary in advance, & didn't issue a directive through the proper channels illustrates his incompetence & poor judgement, besides his apparent inability to make a lucid argument supporting his position.

4 or 5 tweets restricted to 140 characters or less can hardly be viewed as a legitimate 'response' to the Defense secretary (from June 2016):

Quote:
...“I am announcing today that we are ending the ban on transgender Americans in the United States military,” said Ash Carter, secretary of Defense, in a news conference today. “Effective immediately, transgender Americans can serve openly, and they no longer can be discharged or otherwise separated from the military just for being transgender.” ...

I'm not sure anyone can debate with you, at least with a straight face, your statement that the timing of those tweets did indeed show poor judgement. Sometimes I feel like we are all participating in the most watched reality TV show in history and the ultimate master manipulator is punking us all.

Well, maybe someone can. After all, is this unconventional means of communication any different from "Z-Grams"? (that is, Admiral Zumwalt).

At any rate, just because it is unconventional does not invalidate, at least alone, the policy.

Why would anyone want to stop someone from volunteering to take a bullet for our country?

Well, if they aren't going to be there to take that bullet, that would be one good reason.

Not many people doubt that there are transgendered individuals serving honorably in the military, but combat readiness is too important of a question to ignore. That is why.

Wholeheartedly agree.

Particularly when the catchphrase of his reality show was 'You're fired!'

This is the thing, it may have been an engaging & entertaining catchphrase for a TV show, but for the American Presidency?

He may be able to fire everyone & anyone in his administration, however he can't fire the American people, he can't pick & choose who is an American citizen.
