There is no question that the Republican spin seems to be -- if there is a failure of Obamacare or with a new act-- it still is all the Democrats' fault. It's both of the parties at fault to some degree. Democrats have to own that Obamacare had some serious flaws. BUT Republicans have to own they don't know how to fix it, how to provide some kind of reasonable compromise.
At least the Democrats tried to be honorable initially. The intent of Obamacare wasn't to get back at the Republican party or Bush - - it was to try and provide health care to all Americans.
I'm not sure what the intentions are with the Republicans except for to erase any Obama legacy that there might be.
Republicans spent six years promising to repeal and replace the ACA, never believing they'd actually be put in the position to do it. Now they are stuck in the unenviable position of having to live up to that promise or risk the wrath of their base. And as we have seen, they don't have a clue how to do it.
Deflecting blame to the Democrats might have worked if they had left the issue alone, quietly defunded the ACA and let it crash and burn. Then they could have pointed and said, see? We told you it would fail, and most likely the majority of Americans would have bought that deception.
But they are too stupid even for that. Nope, they made a big show of passing something in the House, even going so far as to celebrate that big "win" in the Rose Garden. Now McConnell is making a big deal of his own bill, working overtime to get it passed before the August recess.
The GOP grabbed this issue and ran with it. It belongs to them now.
Two Republican senators have actually reached out to Democrats? That's progress at least. If they would all work together they could fix this thing and put Americans first.
But of course they have to contend with the loony extreme left. The ones who thing this country is socialist or communist--and they don't even know what the words mean!
Yeah, a lot of that going around--using terms incorrectly. People calling Obama Communist. People calling Democrats Fascist.
The extreme left are a PITA, no doubt. But they are not in power and they don't represent the majority of Democrats, as far as I can tell. Just as the Alt/Right and the Trumpists are equally a PITA and don't represent the views of many Republicans.
The difference is..is that the Republicans ARE in power--they could propose, argue, pass and sign a bill--without any interference from the Democrats. Yeah, there would be a lot of noise--but in the end--the bill would be law.
Yup..a lot of name-calling going on by people who are limited in their understanding of what the concepts mean--but..they really don't care.
From what I have read, it sounds like a lose lose to me.
If the Republicans don't pass some kind of bill they look incompetent, unable to even offer up a better plan.
BUT
If they pass a plan that does little to reduce rates, kicks off people, and lowers the level of care offered with insurance plans, they look incompetent.
It's not a good thing for us either way.
I don't want them to fail, even if I didn't vote Republican, I don't want them to fail on this...or anything.
This has serious consequences.
The mistake was rushing this. They should have done it slowly while working at the same time on more popular issues like tax cuts. Then they could have either come up with a better plan, or slowly let this one die. I don't get what the big rush was.

They're not a party of ideas. They had years to come up with a non-idiotic healthcare proposal and they've got nothing.

Whatever you think of the ACA, it was beyond dumb for the Rs to spend seven years blatting about what a bad thing it was, only to be shown up as being clueless themselves.
Let alone what we are to make of Trump running on a health care plan that would be cheaper and offer better coverage for more people. He clearly doesn't have a clue either. Although he did eventually describe the House bill he supported correctly - it is mean.
