To me it is about digging the dirt on my opponent to destroy them politically. Dirt is dirt. I will let everyone decide for themselves if that dirt matters to them. They don't need you thinking for them.
Here's the thing, even at the bare minimum, if you're only trying to destroy political opponents using dirty tactics, your loyalty is still not to your country. It's to your political party, because it comes down to you not being interested in promoting a fair democratic system that pushes the best candidates. Whether you like liberals is irrelevant. I don't want liberal candidates doing this either, and I would be far less likely to support them if I knew they did. Of course, this clearly goes farther than mere opposition research, no matter what lies you have to tell yourself. You're not just excusing normal politics. You're excusing the end of sovereign American democracy.
There is no crime. Its so stupid. If a Democrat had the same information they would have jumped at a chance at a meeting. I bet they had meetings with Russian people regarding Trump. However we will never hear about it!!!
And if a Republican had a chance to get a BJ in the Oval Office they would have jumped at that too. The only difference is that the Republican would have gotten the BJ from a male page instead of Monica.
In both cases, the act itself may not have been illegal, but the cover-up led to obstruction. If this is your position, you need to apply the standard consistently.
