It occurred to me that I left out one other not-so-little thing: NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN THE HANDS OF AMERICA-HATERS.
Imagine waking up one morning and turning on the TV and seeing some ashen news anchorperson saying something like "In case you've just tuned in, at 9:11 am eastern time, three nuclear bombs exploded killing millions of our citizens. One device took out nearly all of New York City, another bomb took out half of Los Angeles, and the other one vaporized Washington, D.C. We urge all Americans to remain calm."
I sincerely believe that THAT type of scenario is not farfetched at all, sad to say.
MrPrometheus, if your scenario occurred, I would be angry at my government before all others. Why? Because I contributed to that twenty trillion dollar defense establishment and if it couldn't stop nuclear weapons--a possibility since the 40s--it would prove to me that all the effort I spent paying those taxes was a waste of time. If your scenario occurred, I'd start scrutinizing my own government first before I believed one word coming from the TV screen. We are in such a precarious spot where reality can be determined for us by others. All they have to do is say "bin Laden did it" or "Al Qaeda claimed responsibility" and Americans would explode. In this nightmare scenario which our government and media warn us is possible, who benefits? What is accomplished? I hope this never plays out, but it won't happen the way we've been brainwashed to believe I can tell you that.
I see what you are saying however as I said there have been tons of economist right on the money YEARS in advance.
And astrologers the same, and no different with all those Wall Street touts whose junk mail clogs up your mailbox. No economist can actually predict anything by more than a few months in advance. No crystal balls exist through which one can divine longer term numbers. One could run a projection off a baseline and using a carefully researched set of dynamic assumptions, but no credible individual who did so would dare call those results predictions. People who claim to have magical powers that let them see clearly into the future are people to be regarded with great suspicion...
It will happen sooner or later. I suspect that it'll happen within the next two years. If not nuclear then biological.
It's nether here nor there how much money has been spent on defense, as the reality is that we're EXTREMELY vulnerable and there's nothing we can do about it anymore than one can dodge raindrops in a downpour.
When the radical Muslims with all their hatred for us and with their access to billions of dollars finally put it all together, we'll know it.
Another thing not to forget is the incredible danger that avian bird flu poses. The CDC says that "it's the greatest threat to human beings in the history of the world."
Yup; glad I never brought a child into this perpetual hell-hole called planet earth.
In the Great Depression Era the country was economically bankrupt. Add to that today's moral bankruptcy and we stand little chance, especially against an enemy from the Dark Ages, who have avowed to destroy us. I believe families were stronger and more intact in earlier years of our nation's history. And possessed a moral compass. Time will tell whether we as a people can stand up against the bankruptcy, infrastructure decay, anarchy and violence to come. No laughing matter. We have allowed our PC agenda to go too far, now we will likely be doomed by our foolish ever heightened quest for "tolerance" of any and all beliefs, behaviors and actions.

It's nice to see someone on this board who has a clue to what is really going on.
And, if we weren't living in such bizarre, frightening times, I would laugh at the ones who think "radical muslims" are the biggest threat to this country.
How can anyone think a country once as strong as ours could be brought down by a bunch of 3rd world boogeymen... if we were able to withstand the great powers of the USSR, or...Nazi Germany and Japan during WWII? It's preposterous.
Yet, for one glaring example, during this "war on terror" the "American" gov't does nothing to secure our borders. It's a Mexican freak show where ever you go in this country. Doesn't this ring the alarms for you people still caught up in this bogus "war on terror"? It should. As should the hundreds of other red flags and blatant lies that have taken place over the past 6 or 7 years.
The threat now is coming from within - from traitors who have been bought and paid for... it's been a work in progress for many years. What you are witnessing now is the final stages of the implementation of it all. Major economic collapse is coming - and probably another "terrorist" event.
Yep, there is definately a "war on terror" going on. But the terror is directed at the American public, as is the war. And, like the previous post mentioned, all it takes is one more major incident like 9/11.... and all those pre-arranged executive orders, framework for martial law - and you got yourselves one hell of a made to order, real life, final take over of this country.
America, the once greatest nation on the planet.... brought down by some rag-tag group of java men. Sounds believable to me! Not.
Nothing in America will EVER be like it was. Or what we thought it was. The real end of life as we knew it... is coming soon. I predict it will all come crashing down during the next administration. This is why the corrupt Fed is propping up the system with phony money - to delay... and make it all look less obvious. Every joker candidate left is OWNED... by the real rulers of the United States - The Council on Foreign Relations, The Bilderberg Group.... the Federal Reserve (about as Federal as Federal Express) and yes..... Israel.
Also, all of this would have never been possible if it weren't for the most destructive device ever invented - The television. "Create your own reality" served on a silver platter.

It's fairly rare to read views like this, I really appreciate your honesty. I agree, America is a planned experiment. The country I grew up in is nearly dead and gone. I'm beginning to think it never existed in the first place. And now, at nearly 40, I find myself shaking my head in disbelief in all that has been destroyed. The Patriot Act and Homeland Security especially make my blood boil. I've recently taken a job at the airport so I "marinate" in the travesty all day long. Before I got my FBI clearance, which took over two weeks because my fingerprints were considered "classified" (whatever that means), I had to go through security everyday which meant having my purse and coat scanned, putting my lip gloss and lotion in a plastic baggie and placing them outside the purse. Having to watch all the trained TSA idiots do their job of "protecting" us etc. I grew up flying in the 80s and sure I had to walk through a metal detector, sure, I understood the need for safety, but I would have never imagined this. Because I flew so much the whole airport security thing and all the illusions around it make me want to set myself on fire. Then there's the announcement about "if you see anyone who is trying to make you carry their bags, report them to the airport security" etc. Hello, why would anyone make anyone else carry their bags? The announcement is meant to control and reinforce fear.
The worst feeling of all is that I am somehow less of a patriot and less caring because I am against this laws. I feel terrible about the economy, terrible about immigration... just all around terrible about living in and being an American.
