You can go to prison if there is a Criminal violation. Getting fired doesn't require a Criminal conviction or charges.

They said they were not going to prosecute Lerner.

That's not the same as OK.

Yes it is.

If it was not OK, they'd prosecute.

I heard that McConnell, Ryan and establishment Republicans hate the Tea Party more than the Dems do so are happy. Another reason to replace them with New Republicans so Americans can get what they need out of this lazy Congress.

The ones that replaced the ones that needed replaced before are in part the ones you want replaced now.

My understanding was these were mostly 501(C)4's that were already previously approved. Conservative groups felt they were being targeted with the large amount of documentation they had to provide to verify they were not primarily a political group. I would expect that any process to verify that they are only engaged in political activity less than 50% would require extensive documentation.I know of only one group that had their tax free status revoked and they were left leaning.

Citizens United increased their numbers while they decreased staff at the IRS, easy to understand why they came up with a shortcut for screening only those groups that seemed to be using this as a false enterprise.

The problem with 501(C)4's is that they can lobby congress and their donors are undisclosed so you can see the benefits. Super-Pacs at least need to disclose their donors.
Congress is moving to protect current regulations for engaging in politics, they should be changing the regulations to bar any political activity.

Good article on the history.

How many times I have repeated do not try and put words in my mouth? No where in this topic have I claimed this was premeditated. That does not change the fact the IRS illegally used criteria that targeted a group based on their ideology.

if that is true then there would need to be others involved and a paper trail.
Probably on Lois Lerner's hard drive. The one that contained the only backups because the IRS with their multi billion dollar IT budget couldn't afford a few grand for backup tapes.

Irrelevant, the IRS cannot use political ideology as a criteria. If you do not understand why or support their actions you are totally hopeless.
