They don't want to "fix the constitution"; they are going after Trump specifically.

But, since everyone agrees it could not be passed to actually affect trump, then why not do it for the future?

This idea has been around for some time. It was originated as a response to Watergate, then resurrected as a response to Clinton's pardons, now with Trump the problem has resurfaced. No doubt there will be similar problems in the future that this would solve.
