The 22 semi auto I had in 1956 functions the same as the AR15, and uses only a slightly smaller round. The former uses a 22LR, the latter a .223.
The main difference is appearance.

And your point is - what? Whatever weapon allows you to slaughter 17 innocent human beings in this short span of time is a problem. Right?

No one cares about that distinction other than the gun fetishists.
So the semi automatic firearm kills by itself? It has a brain, intent, and means to act on its own, huh?

So, God forbid I should face multiple attackers, probably armed, in a home invasion scenario, I should just be OK with being unarmed, and unable to protect myself, and family? Will you want me to relinquish my baseball bat when that is the only weapon allowed in my home?

You are the one with the FETISH, pal. We have thousands, and thousands of gun control laws at the Fed, State, and Local level. Murder is also illegal. What would you propose, gun confiscation, door to door? What about the hundreds thousands of gun possessed illegally by criminals. How would you get those?

I'm not seeing "mass shootings" happening with the gun mentioned above.
Navy Yard shooting was a shotgun/rifle. The shooter did end up killing a security guard and using his Glock midway through.

You guys crack me up. You can dodge and spin and twist - but the reality is that ANY weapon of ANY description that allows someone to slaughter 17 innocent people in a short amount of time is a problem. Right?

You would have to do away with almost all hunting rifles. The AR 15 is a small game hunting rifle.
Maybe, if the FBI would have paid attention when Cruz was turned in to them.

Well, that's a knee jerk statement easily repaired by simple research...

The scale is by century but as guns probably became more common, you see an increase in school shootings with what looks like an inflection point in the 1950's.

So long as statements such as the one above continue to murk in political conversation, we'll probably never move forward on the gun debate...

Now there's a plan! Maybe we should do away with those hunting rifles. Thanks for providing a logical suggestion.

The AR-15 is the single most popular rifle in the U.S. by far. It is mostly used for hunting, target shooting, competition, and home defense. It is very accurate, and modular so you can tailor it to your needs, and purpose.
