Which is completely wrong. Anyone who would say Mississippi is poorer than Punjab, or that Alabama is the poorest place on earth, has an agenda and cannot be taken seriously. Get back to me when you see people squatting in the middle of a crowded street to go potty, which is a regular sight in some countries. Or when their rivers are as polluted as India.

naw you just think that because you don't know what you are talking about. The UN has done great work around the world. 50% of what it does could fail 100% of the time and it would still be a great force for good.

Maybe bonyard, you could spend some time learning about what they do around the globe, who they help and how. I have direct experience of boys in blue saving lives. And saving those lives while risking their own to do so. so frankly boneyard, be better.

Exactly! I never understand this argument, "well, yeah, but poverty in the US isn't as severe as it is in as Bangladesh, so we're good!"

I mean if we continue to measure ourselves against Second and Third World countries, sure, we're going to look good. But I think we as Americans really have to decide if that's the measuring stick we want to use. I'd like to believe we have a higher calling, especially as a country that proudly claims to be a Christian nation.

I'm from a winter country, but I'd never experienced roads as poor as those in Michigan.
Yes, it's all over anymore. I agree with the posters about CA too. Our country's infrastructure is falling apart everywhere and I would hope that's ONE thing we all agree on. I frequently read the Automotive boards on C-D and I was really surprised that roads have gotten bad in CA. It's frequently complained about by residents from there and on other car hobbyist boards I visit. They were once pristine.

Totally agree about Michigan. Some try to spin it as a cold weather problem but it's not. Colorado gets much more snow and roads are a hundred times better there.

Do you understand that you just proved my point?? I didn't say anything about Trump. You're the ones obsessed with that fool; I'm certainly not. Wouldn't waste my time.

By the way, it's spelled "forest" and doesn't need to be capitalized unless it's part of a proper noun. You're welcome.

The poverty level and debauchery is on poor or even worse than some of the poorest countries in the world. The thing is this. The US is not a socialist country where it has to fend for every citizen, and thus this allows millions of Americans to be left behind by the capitalist controlled government. Welfare can only do so much!

This is what forced American factories to move overseas as well. The mantra was Greed and Profit for the Sacred few and poverty for all those left behind.

The failure is that business stopped being part of communities and placed the Worship of the God of Greed above all else.
A greed.

And this is part of the reason stock returns have been so strong for so long. Profit before people , profit before country, profit before the corp itself. great for those with wealth to grow that wealth, but rubbish for the vast majority of americans.

Moving the average working adult from a defined pension to a 401k was really an attempt to bind the middle to the investment markets. when you force the average working stiff to manage their own pension with their paltry salary they are forced to purchased risk in investment markets.

This binds the success of the workers pension to the success of the market. thus you see grown ass men and women turning a blind eye to corporate power because they incorrectly believe it is in their interest.

it is not.

Most americans would be far far better off with stronger labor laws and defined pensions than high beta 401ks. But they sit silent as all the protections earned over 100 years have been slowly stolen away. I see low income low yet worth posters here on this site arguing that employment at will is good, or that corps should have low taxes or that people are unemployed or uninsured because they are lazy...

Americans mostly don't have a clue just how chill life can be when your gov requires your employer treats you like a human being instead of a consumable.

(disclosure , i have been an accredited investor for 20 or more years and my statement is completely hypocritical compared to my actions ref investing )

Totally agree with you. I've never said poverty is Trump's fault. I wasn't the one who mentioned Trump in a discussion of poverty.

Now that others have mentioned him, however, I think he, like many wealthy Americans (and not-so-wealthy), is entirely indifferent to it.

WOW, what a failure of a response.

You see, I like to read what people are responding too....not just that particular post.

So, going back, 1Angry (post 10) quoted post 5, yes?

Post 10 was talking about trump, yes?

You quoted post 10, yes? Your failure is noted...

Hahahaha, you know you've lost when you start going after grammar....you've lost...you're welcome....

Please show us the reasoning behind 2 (two) question marks? And where it falls in place with anything you've stated...I'll wait.

Point taken, but you immediately give yourself away with your use of what is now a ridiculously misused, overused term: "agenda."

Someone make it stop!
