Being moved somewhere else regardless of whether it is literally at the back or the middle or whatever, in order to accommodate someone else because they are supposedly more important is very reminiscent of the civil rights era practice.
I am not defending the congresswoman or United.
But this woman was offered a $500 voucher.
Conjuring up the name of Rosa Parks is ridiculous.

Compared to first class... yes it is the back of the plane. She wanted first class.
She should have negotiated for a higher value voucher.

It is not ridiculous. Obviously we are in 2017 and just forcing someone out of their seats without at least something would violate laws, so the $500 is just a way to justify the same wrong practice.
Why couldn’t this Sheila Jackson Lee character sit in the other seat? What makes her so special? Why is sitting at the other seat so beneath her?

What a ridiculous comment.
The congresswoman took it to race so it can then be judged in that context.
Saying you're not defending, then using but, and what follows to defend them.
The citizen was told that she was less important than a political elite. The money is additional insult and put a price on her status as a full citizen. Is there eminent domain on airline seats ?

She literally believes she is royalty and everyone else is beneath her. This is no exaggeration.
United has buckled to her many times and has made the decision that she will always get her way for fear of being branded as racist. If you don’t let her have her way, she declares you a racist. You could be an 8-year-old cancer patient who is taking the elevator to get chemo and you’re racist for making her wait for the next elevator.
this is why we nee to stop giving our elected officials so much power, and make them all realize that they SERVE the public, not lead it. these people in congress are no different than the average person, and they need to accept what they are given, or they need to make proper reservations. they all need to be slapped down a few notches, and it needs to be done publicly.
