We weren’t there. It’s possible that the woman was indeed a racist. No way of knowing. It is wrong for the passenger to have to give up her seat. But a $500 voucher seems generous. Not sure why any politician needs to fly First Class. I recently saw who I thought was Karl Rove fly Coach on Southwest.
If she is going to go the racist route, she better give some evidence. Especially as Lee has a long history of race baiting herself... including by complaining of gerrymandering...ignoring that one of her two examples was of a district that was made to create a black-majority district and the democrats pushed this to get more blacks elected.
IMO, the way airlines price their seats has been discriminatory for years. It is almost as bad as car dealers.
I understand the congressional calendar is not set in stone, but SJL had a vague idea of when she would be leaving DC.
The airline was wrong to force a passenger to give up their seat to her. SJL could have sat in seat 11.
It is time for her district to show her the door. She has a primary opponent, and a Republican is on the ballot and the winner of the Libertarian primary in 2018.
This has what to do with being upgraded on an airplane?
It shouldn't have to be spelled out to those who claim to be the intellectual elites. But...
Sheila Jackson Lee, from most accounts, seems to use the fact that she is a black woman to pressure institutions and businesses to cater to her. If they do not, she can accuse them of racism and sexism. These groups feel the need to avoid unflattering publicity or attention. That's the way most liberals roll. Perks are for the "marginalized" groups and liberal politicians.
Comprende?
As another poster mentioned earlier, if this had been a white politician (especially a male) who had bumped a non-white person from first class, the liberal media would be ALL over this story.

You don't know Miss Jackson lee. She expects the whole world to cater to her. Most people do.
She has very high staff turnover. But, she does constituent services better than anybody in the area.
DH has had to be in many meetings with her. Her staff is a PITA due to her being demanding of them.
The thing is she is really good at seeing through minutia and BS. She is effective for her voters.
She will accept no. Not enough people had tried it. That's on them.
It's easy. The company lawyers once told dh he had to put a fired employee back on the payroll or the former employee would sue for discrimination. DH responded you make me do that I will file suit on you for discrimination against me. The fired employee remained fired.
She may be. IMO, she is using the tools that work.
The onus is on United for always giving in to her. Just because she said 'racist' doesn't mean they are.
United is not the first company to give in to BS. I have seen the aid of the Chairman of a Fortune 100 company spend 5000 rate payer's and stockholder's dollars so the boss would not have to have a passing glance at a dumpster. The chairman made no such request, nor would he. The dumb aid didn't think the boss should have to see a dumpster while getting out of a car a walking 10 steps. That's the kind of business decisions being made since we let MBA's run the business world. Take the easy way out.
