I have noticed when I look at YouTube videos from the 1980s that back than people were constantly doing outdoor events, huge picnics, huge shows and things like huge movies in the parks.

Now, for the most part people just go out to eat 2,000 to 3,000 calorie meals that claim to chef and artisan prepared in a crowded, stinky setting and than afterwards they get a 1,000 calorie milkshake and usually go out with their spouse to show off drinking $15 martini's all night.

If you actually got out as opposed to relying on youtube, you'd know people still do things. Ft Lauderdale beach is still packed, even thought the spring breakers have been asked to NOT make it the party central is used to be in the 1980.

Wow, so you gathered all this information from Youtube? How do you know people only go out to 2 to 3 thousand calorie meals? Why do you care so much what other people do that you don't know anything about? You really are judgmental. By the tone of the post it sounds as if you were heading towards your usual bashing of obese people, again.

Can you tell us how you know what people are doing these days? Also, what is the point of your thread? This thread is not political nor controversial.

There’s a half marathon there in Tempe this month. Looks like a run of the musical Annie. Something called 6th Street Market with art, shopping and music. I’m sure there’s lots more than just my cursory search. Check your local newspaper.

Yes, people do go out to eat. They still do other things too, don’t worry.

There are 300 hours of video uploaded to Youtube every minute. You can find videos of people doing virtually anything on there. There are plenty of videos of people camping, hiking, kayaking, anything.

They still do movies in the park around here at least a couple of parks.

In the 80's people still spent plenty of time out in bars for entertainment.

Yup, always interesting to compare past era culture compared to today.

As the economic bubble gets bigger so does the consumer culture.

Eating high-calorie slop with a huge price tag and shopping sprees to emulate Kardashians as opposed to sports, clubs, churches and events.

It certainly is a very interesting time. Very-high profit margin slop and shopping sprees at stores are people's main form of entertainment.

Proof?

You have made all of this up, again.

It is a legitimate point that many people today are fat consumerist whores.

Video cameras were literally huge and bulky in the 1980s, most people only used them to record huge events.

Foods prepared by artisan or pseudo-artisan chefs are usually presented in tiny servings; anyone wanting enough calories to feel full will be disappointed.
