I wouldn't live in NY. I pay less for A LOT more and my local taxes are still below the $10k cut off. Your problem is you allowed tax and spend politicians to ream you but since you were able to short change the rest of the country by deducting it off federal taxes they got away with taxing the bejesus out of you.
No worries, your politicians will blame the federal gov't in hopes that you'll follow their lead and ignore it's they who are taxing the chit out of you.

Tell your story to the hedge fund managers and real estate partnerships, throw in the tax breaks for sports arenas.
