Why do you walk AROUND an obstacle in your way on the sidewalk? Crossings go up in areas right next to where a wall is put in. Are we going to wall off the entire coast too?

We don't know how many enter in vehicles or on boats or private planes because the Government won't release the data

The point is why spend billions to possibly slow down a drip, or move that drip to another location, when it is much cheaper to get rid of the reason most come here in the first place. JOBS. Fine any business caught hiring illegals out the wazoo, they will stop hiring them, and they will not be as eager to make that trek.
We grant visas for entry into our country. If we are issuing visas that are constantly being overstayed, we need to be more selective as to whom we issue them to.

That’s like arguing that a department store such not try to prevent employtgeft due to shoplifters taking merchandise.

Why would anyone walk around the wall if it wasn’t a deterrent? Are you saying th walls are a deterrent or they aren’t?

I mean, I assume the people who had the wall in mind, didn't think it is was going to be totally unpassable. It is supposed to provide a significant deterrent-effect.

There should be zero if it’s just as easy to fly, correct?

It’s like saying a person with a car is going to hitch hike to work. It makes no sense to undertake a dangerous hike into the US if flying was an option. Are you saying these people are so stupid that they think hiking is better than flying?

Additionally, the wall isn’t meant to be either autonomous or the only deterrent.

Will wait for answer.
Simple solution: Until we get the immigration problems worked out, stop issuing visas to Mexican nationals. Then, start enforcing current immigration laws. Once the current crop is cleared up, issue a drastically limited number of visas to Mexican nationals and continue enforcing the laws.

.....except that’s not all, by far, that come by visa. It’s from many different countries.

Here's a solution that works for nearly every other civilized nation: Significant penalties for anyone employing a person who is not e-Verified.

Housekeeper, landscaper, roofer, nanny, drywall hanger, slaughterhouse worker, agricultural worker... you name it, if it comes to the attention of ICE, all assets are frozen until a suitable determination can be made of what the penalty should be, no matter how long the process might take.

The current penalties amount to a mere slap on the wrists and barely that.

This would raise money to pay for ICE so might even be revenue neutral.

It would impact the visa overstays, as well as those crossing the border on foot.
