there were many great first ladies in the 20th century, so its hard to pick just one as the best, as they all had their good and bad points. the worst imo was hillary though.

It is hard to pick just one First Lady from the last century as the best. There were a lot of Great First Ladies in the 20th century more so the 19th century. Maybe that because The First Ladies of the 20th century (especially the second half) had more freedom while the First Ladies of the 19th century (overall) were not more than Tea Hostess?
I do agree with those who have said, Eleanor Roosevelt. she is definitely up there. She is one of the best First Ladies of all time.
I will say that IMO The best First Lady of the 21st century so far has been Laura Bush.
