I'm long gone from this scene . . . . but what gives the cops the authority to conduct breath tests on non-drivers? Do 90 kids have to submit to this??

Under the circumstances at hand - yes, they do

So if I understand . . . and some of the details of this party aren't all that clear from the article but. . . if I, as an adult homeowner, decide to throw my kid a huge 18 b-day party, cops can come and force breath testing on my invited guests just due to their presence??

Even if the homeowner wasn't present, what about just 3 kids playing video games while drinking from plastic cups? I'm all for squashing underage drinking but this sounds out-of-control.

I find it amusing that 18 year old Dustin Zebro was referred to as 'underage'. Evidently, this moniker only suits law enforcement and politicians when the said 18-20 year old 'youth' is inbibing alcohol. However, when it comes to more minor matters, such as being tried as an adult on various criminal charges, or perhaps killing someone on the battlefield, then Mr. Zebro would VERY much qualify as an adult, capable of killing a enemy or standing trial.

The 21 year old drinking age is a disgrace. Either raise everything to 21, or drop drinking to 18, or better yet, have NO drinking age. What an immature nation we are.

You are entitled to your opinion of course

I for one do not favor LOWERING the legal drinking age.

That's fine, but then I think we should raise the killing age to 21.

Military service. The minimum age for enlistment should be 21, if the drinking age minimum is also 21. I find it absolutely STUNNING that politicians are comfortable with thinking our boys are old enough to be on the battlefield, but not old enough to buy a six pack of beer. Now before you say I am against wars in general (I am not, very pro-military) nonetheless, there has to be consistency. You say you support the 21 year old minimum drinking age, I hope therefore, you support a minimum of 21 for military service as well.

Who determines drinking age in a state? Answer: State Law does

Who determines legal enlistment age? Answer: Federal Law does

AND, did you know that it is legal for a service member, under 21, to drink on base?

Oh no, it is not. As someone who worked the past 2 years at Holloman AFB, I've been to the Officer's club during functions. There is no alcohol served to those airmen, A1Cs, irrespective of rank, if they are under 21.

As for the state law determining drinking age in a state, that law was heavily coerced by the socialist Senator of NJ, Frank Lautenberg, back in the early 80s, who chaired the transportation committee at the time, and proclaimed that any state that did not raise the drinking age to 21 would lose all federal highway funding. Several states, including New York, Vermont, Wyoming, Louisiana, and Colorado, who had drinking ages of 18 and 19, instantly raised the drinking age to 21, in fear of this mandate.
