We didn't spend every freaking day bashing them though or blaming them for stupid things beyond their control like a hurricane. I remember during the Iraq war, the media refused to publish anything positive that our military did, and focused solely on the body count. This went on every day.

The military loved and respected Bush, and that says a lot more about the truth than what we were told.

One official said first lady Melania Trump, who represented the White House at former first lady Barbara Bush’s funeral in April, was struck by the Bush family’s graciousness toward her, which she conveyed to the president, who did not attend that funeral.

I am not surprised since reading~The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House

Which said that the Bush's were beloved by the White House staff, exactly because of how gracious and approachable they are!
I hope so. The McCain and Aretha Franklin funerals were disgusting.

A NYT editorial expresses moderately well what's going on here. GHWB was as scion of the late great WASP establishment, the establishment that MAG.

In one way or another, the mourners are using this occasion to mourn its passing and the failure of a competent replacement. It ruled with authority, competence and legitimacy. None of the would-be elites that have tried to replace it have succeeded.

The author goes on to pine for a new elite of some form to emerge, or the old one to revive. Etc., etc.

Meritocracy is a shallow and mostly self-serving deception that fails to replace the "spirit of noblesse oblige and personal austerity and piety that went beyond the thank-you notes and boat shoes and prep school chapel going — a spirit that trained the most privileged children for service, not just success, that sent men like Bush into combat alongside the sons of farmers and mechanics in the same way that it sent missionaries and diplomats abroad in the service of their churches and their country."

A lot of the mourners know what GHWB was and represented. They acknowledge, too little and too late, what the country has lost with his passing.

They no longer share the values of the Greatest Generation that brought us such great prosperity and the respect of the free world. They are perfectly willing to throw all that away and follow a populist wanna-be dictator down the path to destruction. Amazing, but true.
If the Bush's can tone down the hate and rhetoric, maybe we all can today. Don't you agree?

A funeral should reflect the kind of person the deceased was and from all accounts this funeral was well planned to showcase 41, the kind of man and statesman he was. I'm sure it will be hard to the Bush kids and grandkids to be around Trump but they will do it with grace out of respect for the fact that's what Bush senior wanted.

Bush junior has shown lots of grace and respect. I don’t know about the rest. But I’m watching the funeral and Michelle Obama has her ****** face on. While Barrack Obama is relaxing, btw i’ve always like him.

The irony must make you all squirmy huh?
Does he have a choice? Trump was the lowest of the low in the entire church. The eyes were burning on him because he is a embrassment to the country. If anything the other presidents should be praised for acknowledging the con.

George HW Bush asked that President Trump be invited to his funeral. He wanted it to be a unifying event.

GWB-Michelle friendship continues...He clandestinely gives her a piece of candy when he greets her, just like he did at Senator McCain's funeral.
