The family of former president George H.W. Bush has planned a state funeral that will steer clear of the kind of anti-Trump sentiment evident at the recent funeral of Sen. John McCain, according to people familiar with the funeral planning.

The Bush family contacted the White House this past summer to say that President Trump would be welcome at the funeral, scheduled Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral, and to assure him that the focus would be on Bush’s life rather than their disagreements, according to one former administration official.

One official said first lady Melania Trump, who represented the White House at former first lady Barbara Bush’s funeral in April, was struck by the Bush family’s graciousness toward her, which she conveyed to the president, who did not attend that funeral.

I am not surprised since reading~The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House

Which said that the Bush's were beloved by the White House staff, exactly because of how gracious and approachable they are!

Like him or hate him. HW had humility and tact.

The death of H. W. Bush has provided the world with a shocking comparison between the life of a true American patriot and the joke that we have in the White House today. The hard core Trump supporters couldn't care less; because they no longer believe in the America that Bush fought for back in WWII. They no longer share the values of the Greatest Generation that brought us such great prosperity and the respect of the free world. They are perfectly willing to throw all that away and follow a populist wanna-be dictator down the path to destruction. Amazing, but true.

Most of the Trump supporters were in diapers when Bush was flying in combat missions.

You make it sound like liberals treated H.W. well when he was President. You must have a short memory. The left trashed and smeared Bush, as they do each and every one of their political opponents when they are in power or running for office.

The only good Republican is a dead Republican in the minds of liberals. They only wax poetic about the virtues of Republican politicians when the politician is dead and they can use the opportunity to smear a living Republican. The same thing happened with McCain, who the left smeared as a racist.

Liberals are purely political animals. Their methods and tactics are transparent, revolting, and grotesque. They can't even let an ex-President have a dignified funeral because they see an opportunity to claw their way back to power by using it to attack their present political opponents.

Wrong. Trump supporters want a RETURN to the generation that valued patriotism and sacrifice for your country. That's why it pisses us off when privileged NFL players take a knee during the National Anthem. Obama was a leader who make it cool to not have pride in our country

So far both sides are to be congratulated on making this about Bush, not Trump and current/past political disagreements. Both the Bush family and the Trumps have been gracious to each other at this time and Trump has granted every request by the Bushes to make this funeral dignified and not about politics or personal differences, like the McCain funeral was.
I know this makes some people very upset.

The comparisons between the 2 presidents (Trump and HW) are just presenting themselves and no one in leadership or in the past or present administration appears to be heightening them. The sense of propriety is appropriate for a state funeral.

It is interesting to note, there are those who take offense and believe that praising the Bushes or McCain is critical of Trump even when Trump’s in no way part of the thinking.
