This is like a company going bankrupt but they didn't tell the employees and they came in to work their shift and the doors are locked.
It's government, different rules apply.

Well they should just send them all home to write letters to their local senators...

Tell Trump that. He is causing a shutdown over his wall while Border Patrol will be required to work without pay. You are suggesting he improves border security by tell BP to not work and instead write letters?

A bipartisan budget bill was passed by the Senate that Trump nixed after first indicating he would support. It was only after media mouth pieces bashed him did he reject it. So in reality either its Trump or his base that is to blame.

They don't HAVE to work without pay though. They can quit, right?

Thankfully union participation for fed workers is stil voluntary, not mandatory for most of us.

It would be horrendous--and at Christmas! And what about the workers with bills due now? Those pesky little organizations that charge late fees--can the workers tell them that as soon as they are paid they'll take care of--the utilities, rent, mortgage, tuition, car payments, Christmas presents for the kids? Think that will fly?

People are hurting--and those who disparage them as freeloaders on furlough and vacation should be ashamed of themselves. Trump should be ashamed of himself for telling people to work for rent (because all federal workers rent--right?) Can they wash the mortgage holders' floors, as well? What is wrong with this man?

And the national parks are looking pretty disgusting as well. To top it off the 'stable genius' freezes federal worker pay--just to twist the knife.

Trump's bizarre assertion that federal workers are Democrats simply makes him look like an enemy of the people, and even more clueless, if possible. He is in the 'let them eat cake' mode, and the outcome of enraging and taunting the commoners may be similar.

Consider that the Border Patrol says one of their biggest obstacles is losing employees due to wage scale. So no we have POTUS causing a shutdown for a wall that he says is vital to security. The BP will now work without pay. And you are suggesting they quit? That'll help border security.
