Please, I would love to hear why you think his counteroffer was nonsense. I mean, I know Schumer and Pelosi say it's a non-starter, but that's based on nothing more than their absolute unwillingness to negotiate at all if there's any funding at all for the border wall. The fact that they won't negotiate at all is nonsense. It's not a negotiation if you refuse to consider conceding some things you don't want to get those you do. Trump has shown a willingness to do this, while Democrats have not. Democrats do not want compromise, they want the president to submit. That is nonsense.
I respectfully disagree that it's nonsense. The politics are that the Democrats have the upper hand. Trump declared that he was responsible for the shut down and he owns it and all of the damage that goes along with it. His base is upset and his poll numbers are tanking. That's political chess. Why give in to Trump when the Democrats are winning? The house went blue because we the people want the politicians to further the agenda they were elected to perform. The wall is only popular with around 30% of the people, or Trump's base. We the people don't want the wall.
"If there is something of substance that comes with the wall request, Democrats are willing to listen. But you can't keep the government shut down while you work on it. The white house figures that the real leverage that they have is the fact that they're holding the keys to the shutdown." Source Lisa Murkowski (R) Politico: Democrats reject Trump's bid to negotiate on immigration for his wall.
Trump is not offering anything to the Dems. It's not a negotiation when you go behind closed doors with Pence and Kushner and don't include Democrats in the process. It's a position a dictator would take, not one that respects the process or the voices of we the people who turned the house blue.
Trump has been put in check by the Democrats. Check mate will be interesting. Trump has to realize that his feckless congressmen have been effectively marginalized. If he can't adapt and stop making malignant rookie mistakes, that hurts fellow American's, then I have no doubt the senate will fall in 2020.
It's all relative when it comes to the ludicrous comments above.
Had Obama conceded and postponed the SOTU requested by the Speak of the House then he would be praised for his willingness to do the right thing. They would adore him for making such a wise decision, etc., etc., etc.
However, since it was President Trump who agreed to postpone the SOTU he is now viewed as a loser who has been defeated and what a laughable joke he is. Not one word about how great it is that he is wanting to work for the betterment of our country by his willingness to work with both sides of the aisle.
When the agreement is reached regarding the wall and the government is back up and running all of the praise will be given to the left - - - no matter how much either side concedes.
There is nothing wrong with being loyal to one's party and expressing viewpoints as long as it's done maturely and with intelligent forethought, it should never consist of childish comments and name calling to the point of bullying. Political bullying is declaring that anyone with views opposite from yours is to be targeted, harassed and removed from public eye. Freedom of speech (to many on the left) is only allowed if you're against President Trump and want to join their campaign.
Beyond pathetic.
What's "pathetic" is that Trump didn't WANT to "work with both sides of the aisle" in regards to the SOTU. He was FORCED to do so. He tried to bully Pelosi to let him give his speech but she refused. When she did so he back down.
It's as simple as that.
A wall will deter a portion of the minority of illegals who are not visa overstayers who cross the border at places not already barricades or ports of entry. So, a fraction of a minority percentage. And it will take over a decade to build. Other measures will do a better job for cheaper and can be implemented faster without taking land from US citizens. That is what I, and apparently the Democrats, are advocating for.

Ladders, saws, long poles and ropes, ... there are any number of ways to breach Trump's wall. The more isolated the wall, the easier this would be.
We just added another trillion dollars to the National Debt. Second year in a row. Starting up a multi-billion dollar boondoggle is just a stupid idea. Lot smarter ways to improve border security.
2 sad post above....but what can we expect anymore....
It took about 1-2 years and it has cut 90% of crossings.....sad you cannot figure out the math....
Interesting...because the one you've mentioned has made offers to resolve this and instead of a counter offer or at least some open communication to try and come to a compromise , Pelosi just states it's a "non starter" and refused to talk.
Sorry, this is on the Democrats. The orange bad man extended an offer... that alone shows he wants to get past this.
The Orange Bad Man can't understand the difference between TV ratings and public sentiment. It entertaining when he "fires" somebody on TV, or gives them an a$$chewing. The contestants signed up for that and watching it happen has no repercussions for the television viewer.
Its very different when Trump throws a hissy-fit and the results negatively effect people's, jobs, incomes, personal security and safetly.
I guess it's different when your father illegally gives you a $1.6 billion safety net, you are insulated from these types of repercussions. The rest of us, not so much.
What are you talking about? Pelosi schooled Trump on how the House works and Trump backed down like the child he is.

Trump plays by a different set of rules. Id think after a few years and all you guys false starts, youd a learned by now. The guy is not the bafoon youve wished him to be. Youll see.... again.

His counteroffer was nonsense because he didn't really offer anything.
He said he would delay DACA action for 3 years.
HOW is that an "offer"?
First off, HE'S the one who essentially upended the DACA status situation to BEGIN WITH.
Secondly, his DACA action is ALREADY stalled by the courts.
So WHAT EXACTLY is he offering of value?
Why doesn’t Trump give the address in the Senate chamber?
Because both the Senate AND the House have to issue the invitation. If there is not a concurrent motion, no invitation.
