I'm with you - but when you look at the whole thing, all of it points to him being a pretty dim bulb.
As Three Wolves keeps pointing out, the dialogue itself was ridiculous. On top of that, he didn't know which direction they went in. He wanted people to believe he went out at 2am in sub-zero temps for something to eat as though there's no way to stay in and get food. The manager hears the Maga country comment but never called 911. He sat with a damn noose around his neck.
The whole thing is comical.
I'll add that the guy is sick in the head. Look at his tweets about Trump and look at what he tried to do with this, and that's one sick dude who needs major help.
Not really though... this whole "hate hoax" phenomenon is pretty disturbing. And it's just one aspect of the larger problem of fake news and the general loss of trust.

Sheesh. He will have a ton of amends to make. I hope he, at least, has the decency to admit his lie and explain why he started this entire mess.
I was neutral at first. I thought it was possible and said if it happened, it was terrible. But it wasn't long before the details came in, and it started to smell.
I think he may deny their version of the story - saying he's shocked that it was them or perhaps blaming his manager. OR he'll say he felt the need to put a spotlight on the hatred that exists for black folks and the LGBTQ community. Because...you know...he's a hero.
Like I said, dude is sick in the head, so it's possible there won't be any contrition or decency - and if there is - I'm not going to believe it anyway. It would be a career-saving attempt, at best.
He owes white people / Trump supporters, the CPD, and the city of Chicago a huge apology, but don't hold your breath waiting for that either.
Don't forget he "fought the f back" while he had a cell phone in one hand and a sandwich in the other, he's just that bad ass. Some little gay boy needs to know that.

What we will find out is that his manager and he felt some publicity like this might get him a black panther like roll with Marvel comics or a gig in a Justice League movie. He fought off 2 bad guys in real life, he is perfect for the role.....

Has a good career, makes good money, no known personal or life problems, has friends and the respect of his colleagues in the entertainment industry, lives in a high end apartment building......concocts fake hate crime attack upon himself. What the hell was he thinking?
It seems clear that, like so many others, he's been caught up in the madness of the "resistance". TDS is real, and it led this guy to commit career suicide.
So fake. So stupid. He's going to ruin his career. What a dope.
I don't know about that. Spike Lee may hire him for all his films now.
