What are your thoughts?
I think it's time to audit the DoD for the first time in its history and find out where the $$$ really goes. I also think it's time to stop the talk of even more inane intervention in things that aren't our business like Venezuela.
We can look at it through ignorance and hate or we can look at transgender as a birth defect. Those of us with a narrow view can think that it doesn't need to be corrected because it's a "mental illness." Those of us who are not low information and read current studies that are in their infancy about understanding why they were born different put the hate aside in favor of compassion and kindness.
So we have two schools of thought. Either way should the military pay for this reassignment surgeries? That's a hard one. Many of these people suffered in silence for decades because the science had not caught up with why they are different. How should we help them? How many surgeries are performed by the military every year?
I have a friend on medicaid now in his early 50's. He has leukemia and lost his job because of it. Should he be cast aside to fend for himself through no fault of his own? Should a transgender be cast aside because they were born in the wrong body through no fault of their own?
This is exactly why transgenders should not be allowed to join the military. If some people wanted to call discrimination, and make it a civil right issue, then ask yourself, "Is it justified to deny them medical treatment once they serve in the military?"
Once they are IN the military, then the military is responsible for their treatment (yes, INCLUDING operations), period. (of course doctors have to say the operations are needed, blah blah) Why open the door for wasting more tax dollars?
Plus, yes, there is no doubt the military wasted a lot of money, but saving has to start somewhere.
My thoughts are to kick them out of the military and let them get their own surgeries and therapies. What in the hell does the military have to do with this? More liberal BS that is ruining the nation.
Sure. Maybe you or your sons can take their place. Hurry and sign up today!

No nearly as much as they spent on Viagra and erectile dysfunction. Why should I pay for that?
well, you shouldn't be forced to pay for that either. But here is the thing, once people are in the military, the military is responsible for their medical treatment. Are we saying erectile dysfunction (in majority of the cases, it is caused by emotional dysfunction) is not a valid medical concern? I have a friend who is dealing with this issue at this moment. He's still active duty Marine in the Corps. If he is serving, then yes, he should be treated. Why shouldn't he?
Plus, younger men most likely don't need them, this is just some hard fact.(no pun intended) (my friend is young, His issue comes and go) The Viagra is mostly for Older retirees and their family members, yes, this is a total waste. You are right, you shouldn't be forced to pay for that, just like you shouldn't be paying for the transgender folks' operations.
I don't think people with preexisting medical condition should be allowed to join the military if $$$$ is a concern, but once people are in, then I believe military should be responsible for ALL their treatments.
This is exactly why I don't believe transgender folks should be allowed to join the military.
