That's pretty much what defines America right now.

If you aren't white, heterosexual, and the right kind of Christian (fundamentalist), you are the scum of the earth these days.

this is a political forum and one of the reasons some of us participate in POC is we try to understand the perspectives of the 'other side'. The Federalist opinion piece above is a perfect reflection of my thinking. the best I've read so far that explains my thoughts in this political climate.

whether you are on the other side of the aisle or on my side, it is an interesting opinion piece. I would like to hear your thoughts after you read it.

Trump supporters hate gay people, minorities, and non-Christians more than they love America. They will never admit that though since their "America" is an idealistic caricature of the 1950s that never really existed to begin with. They believe we need a strong man to FORCE our society back 70 years and Trump is that strong man.

who is "they"?

Some Republicans boast about being white supremacists - does that make the entire GOP a white supremacist party?

Just curious were you going to vote for Trump in 2020 either way? I was and still am. I think the left's surge farther left is going to destroy them with moderates and independents. I am hearing news locally that Biden is considering Stacy Abrams for his running mate.... They just keep making it easier to NOT vote for them.

Bardmesser's comment exude that. Back to the "good old days" without the ability to think for themselves that we have moved on. Diversity, for starters. They would burn America to the ground before addressing climate change, immigration, health care, deficits, et al.

The charlatan is very clever. Takes his flock to the edge, and they make their own conclusions, without him actually saying the implied words. "Never said that". Nope, you didn't. But people like George got the message and are running with it. Right off the edge of the square earth.

Republicans ARE afraid of abolishing ICE because they ARE afraid of illegal immigrants.

It's more like Democrats can't get Americans to vote for them, so they are importing new voters.

wow, that is a scary article, really everyone should take a second and read through it. Pages and pages of hysteria railing against "hallucinogenic socialist nut jobs" from a so called "middle-of-the-road Republican who voted for Trump with the utmost reluctance in 2016."

If this is what politics has come to, we are screwed. The author is clearly unable or unwilling to see the hypocrisy of their rage and doesn't seem to know what it is they actually stand for.

What does it mean to be a Republican now? Fiscal conservative? Strong foreign policy? Family values? Religious adherence and deference to God? Personal responsibility and accountability? Picking yourself up by the bootstraps and going from rags to riches?

The author claims that none of this matters, so what does? We are left with this profoundly insightful conclusion:

Quote:
Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, and Tlaib. I see this nutterfest, and let me tell you, dear Democrats: I am motivated as h***. If ever given a choice (in this election or in other ones) between Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Tlaib, Pelosi, Warren, Harris, Booker, Biden, Sanders, or Trump, I will take Trump any day of the week.

I am a highly motivated Trump voter because the Democrats have motivated me up to my eyeballs. I have never been more motivated in my life, because the Democrats are terrifying me. I am locked, cocked, and ready to rock in that voting booth. I just wish I didn’t have to wait 20 months.
That's deep

These days, it means to support an authoritarian state that imposes conservative religious dogma and enforces patriarchy. It also means you support preserving WASP dominance in American culture.

Republicans under Trump have thrown everything else they once had out the window. You can't be a "small government" conservative when you're primary reason for existing is to control what other people can or cannot do with and put in their bodies and who they can or cannot love.
