I like a military friendly neighborhood. "liberal" "diversity" is not my requirement. I've lived in liberal state most of my life. I am not impressed. It is okay, but it is so overrated. People here are not necessarily more educated. lol You have all kinds here.

8) Durham, NC
9) Alexandria, VA
10) Bellevue, WA

I wanted to ask as general question: Hypothetically, without using politics, if you were given a job offer in one of the cities above? Could you put politics aside to relocate to San Francisco? Keeping in mind costs of living, quality of life, real estate values, demographics, etc.

What about one of the most conservative cities?

1) Lafayette, LA
2) Tyler, TX
3) The Woodlands, TX
4) Knoxville, TN
5) Frisco, TX
6) Carrollton, TX
7) Murfreesboro, TN
8) Chattanooga, TN
9) Scottsdale, AZ
10) Huntsville, AL

Where would you rather live politics aside?

For me using these two lists I'd pick
1) Scotsdale, AZ
2) Boulder, CO
3) The Woodlands, TX
--------------------------------

1) Berkeley, CA - NO (expensive and left coast)
2) San Francisco, CA - NO, see above
3) Oakland, CA - NO, see above
4) Arlington, VA - NO - too expensive
5) Pasadena, CA - NO, see above
6) Boulder, CO - maybe
7) Sunnyvale, CA, NO, see above
8) Durham, NC - maybe
9) Alexandria, VA - NO, too expensive
10) Bellevue, WA - NO, left coast

Only one on your list that would be an unquestioned YES would be Scottsdale AZ

Without using politics or cultural assumptions... I have lived many places world wide and seen much. That being said, the answer for me it is age/time of life related. At times in my life I have lived in Europe and in some of the cities in list 1. they were exciting but now in my elder years, I prefer and do live in a city in list 2.

Life is peaceful, people are good hearted and kind. List 1 and other cities of that ilk are a vacation for me when there is something that I want to see but back home to my friendly little abode.

I've lived in the top 3! Berkeley, SF and Oakland, but then I'm liberal. Frankly Berkeley and Oakland are next to each other so for the purposes of this question, they are really the same thing. There are long streets that are part Berkeley, part Oakland. SF is not far off either being just across the Bay but has a more up market vibe in general. The other two are more gritty.
I miss lots of things about the Bay Area but I dont miss the crime or the out of control homeless situation going on in all three cities. Unless this issue gets sorted out, I wouldnt consider going back.

Of the conservative cities I'd consider Scottsdale because of it's growing art reputation.

But Fayetteville is the place to be in Arkansas, since it's growing fast.
