Two developed nations at war will spill over and destabilize the world.
The evidence available to Iran and their experience since the 50s with the US is that the US will invade them at some point as the US invaded Iraq unless they gain nuclear weapons like North Korea.

The US intention to attack Iran has been clearly stated continuously for the last several years, and the US government has even asserted that it will not honor any agreement it makes with Iran.

Given the view from their direction, the pursuit of nuclear weapons is perfectly rational on their part.

So we already have ~30 military bases surrounding Iran but we need an air craft carrier too?

Why don't our military leaders just say Iran has gas? That's already worked multiple times so why not try it again? Too many Americans fall for this garbage.

B-b-b-but why do you hate America? Don't you know we are the ones who get to decide who is free and who isn't? (unless that country already has nukes then we tread lightly)

Actually we do have the right to sanction them. The 1968 treaty on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons was intended to avoid a nuclear war. Even though the cut-off date was arbitrary, that was what the world agreed on. It was also agreed that the nuclear powers would slowly disarm themselves, but I am not sure if it meant completely. We should be pushing a big deal with Iran and North Korea. Disarm/abandon your programs for entire sanction relief. We could not sanction Russia or China because they were parties to the treaty.

Also, no idea why and how Israel, Pakistan, and India get free passes on their tested programs. India I could see since they are a world superpower and developed their weapons in 1974 shortly after the treaty. Regardless, I do not feel that these weapons make our world a safer place. Sanctions that lead to war with Iran will have grave consequences.

It's beginning to seem like a regime-change in Iran is something the Trump admin/John Bolton wants to accomplish before they head out of office. They are arguing that a regime-change is needed before they can develop nuclear weapons because once that line is crossed, it's over for any moderate government to come in. Pompeo even made an unplanned trip to Iraq.

But a war with Iran or attacking Iran seems like it would last years.

They indicated this specific carrier was sent because of a threat by Iran.

Iran stated they are going to back out of the deal to some degree, seems like we are going backward rather than forward.

Trump is giving the Ayatollah and IRG new momentum with his actions, I don't see what we gained by backing out of the agreement coupled with our current actions. Do we really need to instgate another conflict, was life too boring.

Actually I'm thinking several steps ahead where our involvement escalates into a protracted unwinable war, thousand of innocent civilians killed, terrorists emboldened, troops killed/maimed, suicides, addiction, families ruined, trillions of taxpayer dollars blown up...
You seem ignorant of not only the past but the present right under your nose.

The USS Abraham Lincoln had already been in the Arabian Sea where it was supposed to be as a 5th fleet asset. It wasn't sent out by any recent events--it takes too long to get from here to there at 30 nautical miles per hour.
