If I want to pay for a bill board to counter the billboard the local politician puts up, why is that any of your business?
These are mostly tax exempt groups (501's) not individuals that supposedly have no connection to a candidate. They choose an issue and offer criticism of a candidate but they are restricted from coordinating with any of the candidates, that is pretty much laughable. No one knows the donors but there is big money impacting the election results. Both parties love the money but they both complain about the funding influencing elections.
Please, it is not. If 100 people believe like me, why is it your business if we want to pool our money and put up 100 billboards?
I'm not saying "it's my business" what you do.
The false equivalent argument is to claim that:
You & others putting up 100 billboards is no different from an individual's $93 million campaign donation even if it's funneled through various PACs & Super PACs.

People have as much of a right to the process as do politicians. Here we are arguing to restrict the people as opposed to the politicians. It takes a lot of money to counter all the free time the politicians get to spew their lies.

It's nothing more than an excuse. People always have to find excuses for people voting in a way they do not. So tell me, which political ad was it that caused you to vote for who you did?

We are arguing that unlimited donations (particularly anonymous ones) have handed the mega-rich an outsized influence on the electoral process and that the playing field should be leveled.
