She said absolutely nothing wrong. As usual, Republicans take her words out of context in order to hide the anti-semitic right wing nut jobs screaming 6 million more in Arkansas.
there was no distortion of the quote. your faux outrage over this nondistortion is very deserving of scorn and ridicule.
how does one pretend that something was never said by quoting the supposedly unsaid thing directly? you forgot to address that.
YES, there was!
1st: You were reposting the story, and the story was misleading.
2nd: The POTUS did the same thing as you, and he was trying to sew division and hate
3rd (and most importantly): If there was any doubt, look at the post THAT I QUOTED. I did not even realize you were OP when I quoted it, but you absolutely, in fact, and can't be denied, snipped the quote to fit your agenda that "she said....". Your OP ignored her intent, and your follow-up quote excluded it.
We are left to believe that you are either disingenuous, or incapable of understanding the entire thought.
I will repeat, I am not a fan of Tlaib, I just have to stick up here because you guys are misrepresenting her.
You FLAT OUT misrepresented her quote, whether intentional, or due to lack of comprehension, I guess only you will really ever know, but the fact remains you misrepresnted.
The opinion writer at the WaPo hit the Trump supporters fake outrage out the ballpark. Rashida Tlaib and the anatomy of a smear
Quote:
This is the anatomy of a particular kind of smear, the false and cynical accusation of anti-Semitism. It’s a smear the Republican Party under President Trump has become particularly adept at and enthusiastic about. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: A Muslim Democrat says something about Israel that can be taken out of context, its meaning twisted into something the speaker neither said nor intended.
Step 2: Republicans, full of transparently phony outrage, claim that the statement was anti-Semitic.
Step 3: Conservative media outlets on television, radio and the Internet kick into gear, amplifying and spreading the smear.
Step 4: Mainstream media begins reporting on the “controversy,” framing it as a he said/she said argument, where both sides have an equally valid claim to be telling the truth.
Step 5: Trump spreads the smear on Twitter, multiplying the attention it gets.
Quote:
So let’s get one thing clear: Republicans don’t care about anti-Semitism. If they did, they’d have spoken out about the fact that the president they revere has done more to promote, elevate and validate anti-Semitism than any American in decades. Where was Cheney when Trump said that a rally put on by white supremacists and neo-Nazis where the participants chanted “Jews will not replace us!” was full of “very fine people”? She condemned the Nazis, but praised Trump.
Quote:
It isn’t some kind of accident that there has been a dramatic increase in anti-Semitic incidents since Trump became president. It’s no accident that many white supremacists and Klansmen were cheered by his election and felt that their hateful beliefs could now be brought into the light. They saw Trump’s long history of racism, xenophobia and, yes, anti-Semitism, and knew he was their guy. That truth will not be obscured no matter how many times Republicans try to smear Muslim Democrats with phony charges of anti-Semitism.
Quote:
So why do Republicans do this again and again? It serves many purposes for them. It’s possible that some of them actually think it will win them support from American Jews, but that is a vain hope. It allows them to put Democrats on the defensive. And, perhaps most importantly, it serves as a roundabout way of validating their own anti-Muslim bigotry. They’d like nothing more than to draft Jews into the war of civilizations they want to wage against Islam.
The way she strung her thoughts together was goofy but anyone who reads the entire quote and tries to pretend she said the Holocaust itself gave her a calming feeling is being disingenuous. Her comment was meant to convey that the fact that her ancestors gave up the land that provided Jews a safe space after WW2 was calming but that she wants us to now look into how equitable that had been for Palestinians themselves. I think it is a fair question but she was not bright/skilled enough to place it in an order that made the most sense.
At this point the 3 or 4 women in the 'squad' need to go in for some serious speech and communication training. Collectively they cannot make it more than 10 days without saying something that has everybody asking WTF...
Using the word calming in the same sentence as Holocaust is poor judgement but she quite obviously didn't mean that the Holocaust gave her a calming feeling. These freshmen congresswomen aren't helping any and her entire point was lost because of her lack of perception, Very rambling response and she does need some practice but the fake outrage over her statement is absurd.
I'm Jewish, and not any particular fan of Tlaib but this is 100% correct. Cherry picking a few words out of context is BS, but the faux-outrage will continue
You have to expect this BS from the right-wing nut-jobs on this forum. These new women in Congress who are not afraid to speak up are driving them crazy.
You can't expect anything different from people that support a pathological liar and con man.
