I don't know why I never thought of that before, yet it's obvious. Could that be why the problem has been ignored?
Because it's a privilege to be homeless? No, wait. Because white males have privilege regardless of socioeconomic strata so you're simply missing the fact that white male homeless folks have it way better than all other homeless folks. Black homeless folks have had it the worst due to the after effects of their homeless forefathers being slaves to white homeless males.
The Military is one answer. Less accustomed to lack of resources and family support may be another.
Meaning - massive numbers of homeless are vets. Vets from some communities may be more likely to have family located in one or two areas (as opposed to spread around the country)....and perhaps "lower class" communities of certain types are more tolerant of their family members because of a long history of them being in trouble in various ways.
Just a guess...but it makes sense to me that a middle to upper class family tends to spread out (job and relocation) making it harder for them to handle everyone from wayward family members to their own elders.
When I do chat with homeless in Sarasota they tend to mention family elsewhere. I don't know the details, but their families seem happy to be rid of them...or the other way around.
White and male privileged just speak to the advantages certain people receive because of their race, sex, etc. It is not a guarantee. Even someone who is majorly advantaged (like, a rich family, opportunity for excellent education, etc.) can totally blow it. Just because some people have squandered their advantages, for whatever reason, does not mean that privilege doesn't exist.

I’ll make this easy for you:
Let’s say that the overwhelming majority of homeless men were black, and someone asked you “hey PilgrimsProgress, why are most homeless men African Americans?”
What would your answer be?
Okay, THAT’S why most homeless men are white. The exact same reason.
Hmm. This seems to be based on your observations? You should count up all the white men who are not homeless and those that are homeless. Then count up all the non-white men who are not homeless and those that are. Then compute and compare the percentages and get back to us. We can talk about it then.

There is also privilege for the LGBT, Native Americans, Blacks, Latinos/Hispanics, Muslims, Jews, atheists, women, etc. Where and when such privileges happen is a question.

+1....speaking/writing as a White Male that is a good summary.

Or it could be you are just wrong about the facts.
From organizations that have actually have surveyed the homeless population: "Most minority groups in the United States experience homelessness at higher rates than Whites, and therefore make up a disproportionate share of the homeless population."
