While there is no doubt that slavery and racism throughout the history of the US have caused tremendous problems among the black community. That said, we have also seen that simply giving money away solves nothing. The better option would be to spend money on proper community improvement, training and access to markets and jobs.
And that's what I have read is wanted. The only person saying anything about green folding dollars is this writer.
Opinion:
If reparations ever becomes a reality....
Will it guarantee the elimination of crime, poverty, drugs, welfare and single parent homes in poverty stricken communities?
Use the money to upgrade the neighborhoods, create business, supply jobs, provide policing and uplift the community.
That's reparation money well spent.
First, I'm opposed to this because reparations are already being paid, and have been paid, via the affirmative action program. Basically, we as a nation said "due to slavery and its impacts, we will give lower-qualified blacks preferences over higher-qualified whites in admission to college and grad school, admitting those who would not otherwise get in if equivalent standard were applied."
But second, just handing out 80K to every descendant would be money thrown out within a couple of years. (Never mind we can't afford to pay it.) Better to have an "African American fund" by which any low-wage black worker (say $30,000 or less) can receive up to $10,000 a year to pay for a) a one- or two-year community college career program and b) childcare services during the time they are in class. (Payments would be made directly to the provider so as not to risk the recipient blowing it on a car or whatever.)
This would not cost as much as it sounds. Low-income people under $30,000 already qualify for $6,000 under Pell Grants (so we are adding just $4,000) and are already getting highly subsidized childcare services. So, for a total of a few thousand dollars we are answering the never-ending calls for reparations AND helping poor blacks become self-supporting.
Democrats will want take the land by Eminent Domain from American farmers who paid off the Mortgages through decades of hard work.
Then they'll want to confiscate evil Capitalist John Deere's factory to produce those tractors.
It's the Socialist / Communist way.
Then all that land and tractors will go to waste just like in Africa. No crops will be produced and the tractors will rust in the fields.
Then they will close the John Deere factory and lay off all the workers.
It will be just like Zimbabwe and South Africa here in the US. Shoot or Jail the Farmers who protest to loudly.

I don't think so. Many of the Democrat presidential candidates have called for reparations, with only Bernie, as far as I have seen explaining that actual monetary transfers are not a good idea. The others, as well as many journalists and other left-wing ideologues, have been increasingly calling for actual reparations in the form of money directly to individuals.

Your against it because you are "in your FEELINGS". Your "Feelings" will lead you to come with lame justification after lame justification, to be against it. First comes the emotions....then comes the need to rationalize those emotions in such a way that you or others don't interpret the emotions as rooted in racism. Such people need to avoid "moral injury"....which requires/inspires ones cognitive dissonance.

Sounds like you're speaking of the people impacted by TDS.

The land was stolen to begin with. I'd probably have to wait in line behind Indigenous peoples anyway.
