Dan Coats has repeatedly warned Congress, under oath, that Russia interfered in our 2016 election, and that they will interfere in our 2020 election as well. Trump and Putin probably do not like that, so Coats is moving on.
Coats will be replaced by Ratcliffe, who is a hard-nosed Trump defender and has himself discussed conspiracy theories that Strzok and Page were part of the "Deep State" conspiracy to remove Trump from office.
Ratcliffe being considered for DNI also explains his Broadway performance last week during the Mueller testimony, he must've known Trump was watching. And White House aides said that Ratcliffe nailed his audition when he went on a tirade during Mueller's testimony, saying that Trump was "very pleased" with Ratcliffe and "how he handled" Mueller.
At a press conference after their two-hour-long meeting in Helsinki, Finland, Trump, standing next to Vladimir Putin, said he did not "see any reason why" Russia would be responsible for the election meddling.
"My people came to me, Dan Coats came to me and some others, they said they think it's Russia. I have President Putin; he just said it's not Russia."
