I sat down with my teen to watch Grease over the holidays - in fact on the screening on the BBC mentioned in the article. I loved the film when I was a teenager (I was born in the 70s) but will admit to having forgotten some of the words in Grease Lightning. I can’t say I was happy with it, I don’t think I understood the words when I was a teenager. She definitely understood them now and was horrified, I wouldn’t tolerate her using those curse words in my presence. It’s hardly cancel culture to be raising concerns about something that wasn’t taboo back then but is now.
I’m assuming they’ll be blocked on here but here we go...

The Daily Mail is a trash rag but if you read the article, the concerns raised were about the fact it’s a PG and I believe it was shown later afternoon/early evening, which isn’t appropriate for the audience watching on Boxing Day, my 4 year old was watching with us (although oblivious). After 9pm, anything is fair game but even I was surprised they let that slip through the net
Yeah, the lyrics you mentioned was about the only thing that really jumped out at me as being inappropriate for the younger kids.

This is why I think it's hilarious that the conservatives in this thread are embracing Grease as FINE ART AND TRUE AMERICANA THAT MUST NOT BE DESTROYED BY WOKE DEMONS.
In any other context they would be clutching their pearls over it. My high school did Grease for the spring musical and got a ton of complaints from conservative religious parents who did not want The Sex even hinted at.
If the lyrics to WAP offend you, you should read the lyrics to "Greased Lightning" lol.
Lots of PG rated moves in the 70s had nudity, including frontal male nudity (check out Can't Stop the Music).
Grease is fun, but not appropriate for kids under 13 and I don't think many parents realize that.
I didn't know what I was hearing, though, so it didn't matter. My Dad danced with me to 'Greased Lightening' and I didn't understand the words except '****' and he'd made a big 'omg' face and then move on.
When I was older I was like '***** wagon'? wow. 'The chicks will cream'. But at 8 I had no idea what any of that meant. I didn't even clearly hear the worlds on an album.

They don't say those words. Jesus. Lots of R rated content gets shown with words and scenes edited out or made kid friendly.
all the actors were in their 20's or 30's - they were playing High Schools students - I thought that was distracting.

Agree. The rest of it we are able to recognise that films from 40 years ago aren’t necessarily going to reflect current modern society. Most teens are pretty good at it.
I think if parents just have more conversations with their kids in general things would be better for young people. I don't have kids myself so maybe I'm off base here, I don't know.
