But if he did simply just get back in the car to drive away, (a stupid move of course) what fear would the police hold that would make them shoot him?
The perp could be going for a gun. There was a case a month or so ago in which a women got back in her car, pulled out a gun and shot the police. The police officer returned fire, killing her. No cop wants to find out the criminal is going for a gun when it's too late, and it's been happening that way more than usual as of late. Lot of hate directed at these police officers on a daily basis, and not a whole lot of respect or appreciation for the risk they undertake on a daily basis.
I am just sick and tired of black men being shot up by the police.
Are they resisting arrest?
Are they evading?
Are they fighting with police and trying to grab their weapon?
Are they in the process of committing a felony?
Do they have multiple high risk warrants on them?
If the answer to any of these questions is "yes", things will likely get ugly when it comes to a black male in the ghetto. Just sayin'..... And it doesn't matter what color the officers are.

I understand that, but is there a suggestion the cops thought he was going for a weapon? Was the car in motion when they fired? Guess we will have to wait for more details, as always.
Really? They can't just go to his house and arrest him later?
A cop won't be liable for a driver if they attempted to detain him.
Why should the cops just simply let him go to his house and arrest him later? For starters, the guy could just decide to bail and leave the state knowing he's likely to be arrested later.
Another situation where not complying (assuming as more details come out) leads to this.
