You mean the are illegal. They were legal when they were in use in 2020 because it pre-dated the WI Supremes' decision.

Whether we say that the vote was fraudulent or merely that votes were cast contrary to the law, the point is that election officials were acting contrary to the law of the states they were in. If we read the legal arguments put forward by the Trump campaign and GOP officials, they often touched directly on this point, whether we are talking about PA, WI, or a number of other states. In the case of WI, many thousands of ballots were cast contrary to the law. That it took the final authority in the state for interpreting state law more than a year after the fact to conclude such is irrelevant to this point as it is the point that was made back in 2020 by those opposing the efforts.
