I have zero problem with an eye-for-an-eye punishment.

After all, we have the death penalty in this country. (Which I support)
I support the death penalty as well, and don't believe we use it often enough. Kill them if they deserve it. Clean out all of the lifers in prisons.

Cutting off body parts is still barbaric to me.

No. For deliberately causing the loss of an eye for the victims.

Someone I worked with of an account of a relative going to Iran. On climbing down the access stairs from the aircraft and walking toward the terminus, this person saw a wallet just lying there. He wanted to pick it up to hand in to someone. He was told to leave there. The person who had lost it would discover his loss and would retrace his steps to find it.

In the west, when a crime is committed, the police will go through known offenders to find the person who did it. See the difference?

Oh, and to those who favor the death penalty, here's a fun fact. There has never once in all history ever been a repeat offender after the execution. Just thought I'd mention that.

I wonder what punishment a pedophile would get?

That would be the opposite of an eye for an eye punishment for that fact pattern. Eye for an eye is the same punishment given to you based on the crime you committed. You kill someone, your life is forfeit. You blind someone in an acid attack, you are blinded yourself. Etc.

It’s their country, they can do what they want. Has no effect on the US so we should mind our own business and stop sticking our nose where it does not belong. Whether you view their justice system as right or wrong, it does not matter. It’s not our business, period.

It is frankly bizarre the way American progressives often defend the ultra-right wing, radical Islamist Iranian regime. Khomeini had tens of thousands of liberals and leftists imprisoned, tortured, and killed. In addition to gays, women, religious minorities, and anyone who disagrees with them at all. They execute way more people per capita than country. In addition to amputating arms, gouging out eyes, and other horrible tortures.

Does anyone have a rational explanation for the attitude of the left? Anyone who loves the silent UN care to comment?
I don't think the Iranian government, based on Islamic cannon law, is right wing in any manner relative to western governments. This just isn't true.

In the West leftist progressives post modernists think that anything that isn't part of W. Civilization is good. So as an example in the USA if a Christian baker doesn't want to be forced to bake a cake with custom imagery or wording because it is against his Christian beliefs the left will sue and shut down that Christian. In this case the Gay wedding cake case(s). Now if Muslim truck drivers in the USA refuse to deliver alcohol and the trucking company fires them leftists in the USA will be on the Muslims side strictly because Islam isn't Western. Although in Islamic countries being gay is illegal and one can be put to death for it.

Star Transport Fired Truckers for Refusing to Transport Alcohol, Federal Agency Charged
CHICAGO - A federal jury in Peoria, Ill., has awarded $240,000 to two Somalian-American Muslims who were fired from their jobs as truck drivers at Star Transport, an over-the-road trucking company, when they refused to transport alcohol because it violated their religious beliefs, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), which brought the case. The trial started on Oct. 19, and the jury returned its verdict the next day after 45 minutes of deliberation.

Iranian courts have sentenced three people to be blinded in one eye under the Islamic republic's retribution laws, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

Hamshahri, the Tehran municipality's daily, said a woman was among the three sentenced to the eye-for-an-eye punishment.

She had hurled acid at another woman in a 2011 dispute, causing her to lose an eye, it said.

Hamshahri said the supreme court has upheld the sentence of having her right eye gouged out, on top of a jail term and a fine.

A man has been handed down the same punishment for causing his victim to lose an eye in a knife assault in 2017.

In a third case, dating back to 2018, a man has been convicted for blinding a friend in the left eye with a hunting weapon. Hamshahri said the plaintiff has "insisted" that his assailant suffer the same fate.
Also, because of Sharia Law in Iranian law victims can choose instead to receive blood money or to forgive the person. I watched a documentary of such a case years ago involving a woman in a different Arab nation who was blinded and horribly disfigured by a former boyfriend throwing acid in her face. She was from a wealthy family and the father was explaining poor families in such cases often must take the money so they could care for the person but they had no such problems so it was truly her option. She ended up having him blinded.

But, seriously, what is with the acid throwing???? It’s apparently on the scorned lover revenge go to list in these countries.

This is the same nation that is developing nuclear weapons and threatening to turn NYC in to a hellish ruin.

It's also hardly surprising that Islamic fundamentalists like to gouge peoples eyes out, or hang them from cranes or throw people off rooftops etc.

I bet they are terrified of old Joe, and I don't see Nancy going to Iran to lecture them on human rights.

Can no longer use American standards as a reference for being tried unfairly.
