Some years ago (before Wuhan Virus) Walmart closed a neighborhood market that was near me because of theft. They didn't have high-value electronics in the store. Stolen low-value items can add up.
And let security actually stop them in the act the way they used to.
I have a relative who works in retail that was coming in to start his shift and saw shoplifters walking out with duffle bags full of merchandise. He flagged down a police car that happened to be driving by.
He got reprimanded and came very close to getting fired.
When I worked at Walmart years ago, there was a woman who was obviously on drugs just walking through the store. She had a baby in the buggy screaming his head off. She was flinging cans and jars of groceries in the buggy, hitting him. She was oblivious to his crying. I immediately reported it to management. They refused to intervene. Walmart is just like that.
The lower class don't shop on line. They shop at Walmart and liquor stores. The honest among them are hurt the worst by store closures from this systemic retail theft in their lower class neighborhoods.
You can't get groceries via food stamps from Kroger, etc for delivery. That's a luxury for people with money.
Limit how they can exit. The cashier is behind glass. You go through a door, it locks behind you. The door in front is also locked. Bullet proof. Your purchases are verified and then the door to the outside opens. This would work but if the cops don't come you have a rat trap that can't be emptied. I think it would stop 90% of the run aways however.
Not legal in some states. Can be construed as kidnapping. Would probably cost them thousands of customers. Honest people don't like being treated like thieves.

Yet it doesn’t cost them 1000’s of customers in states that allow it or it would certainly get media attention. The Walmart we shop at in PA checks receipts, especially for unbagged items. We’re not so sensitive to get our feelings hurt over it.

Not legal here except in club stores. I have never seen a Walmart anywhere with bullet proof glass. and security doors.
Even gun stores here don't have that much security.

Just because it’s illegal in your state doesn’t mean it’s illegal in others. Nobody said anything about bulletproof glass and security doors, lol
Post #83 did. If you look, that is the post I responded to.
Except they gave an idea to help stop with shoplifting. They didn’t say such WalMarts existed.
