A ban on 15 year old cars which require significant repairs wouldn't affect me. Nor would an outright ban on 15 year old cars. So tough to get worked up over this.

These posts seem to contradict themselves. The former seems to imply the story is ludicrous, the latter implies it's credible but you're a troglodyte if you object to it.
No, I'm not implying anything, I'm pretty much stating that it's silly to get all worked up about a proposed law in another country.
The other refers to the demographic group that consumes lots of media and gets scared easily.
If your car is over 15 years old, it probably doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money on repairs. You will be spending more than the car is worth. Put your money toward a new(er) car.
But there shouldn't be a law against it.
A lot of vehicles over 15 years old are better vehicles than the newer, plastic ones.
I'm sure that many states would say no just like they have to the gun laws. So we will continue to drive our 24 year old Chrysler with 139,000 miles and our 17 year old Nissan with 239,000. Oh and my 30 year old work van with 240,000. All three should outlast me.
