Seems pretty obvious to me - if you're going to run for President, it should be based on who you are and what you've done up to the point you make that decision.

Well GWB already had four years under his belt when he ran for re-election in 2004... he the last four years have been spectacularly bad.

I think coventional wisdom blew up the experience arguement when McCain chose Palin to be his running mate. It's over, move on

So no way in hell is she qualified to be President.....I've seen her in action.

Based on that criteria, neither is Obama.
  • He's only been a Senator for a short time, and never a Governor (Alaska is not that small) and Palin has also been mayor and city councilman.
  • Obama believs Odd things (has been attending a racist "black theology") church for many years. At least Palins beliefs are mainstream Christian.
  • Palin does give press conferences, but it's understandable that she avoids the so-called "mainstream", who only are interested in trying to trap her to discredit her. I wouldn't speak to them either, and neither will Hannity or Rush Limbaugh. They no the drill, and she has obviously been told.
  • She's more informed than Obama, and at least she knows we have 50 states, not 58! She knows more about energy and drilling than Obama (as far as I can tell, he knows nothing of that subject except how to block it.
  • Palin knows how to get the economy moving again. Obama does not. He only wants to tax people more. Wrong thing to do anytime, let alone when the economy needs a shot in the arm.
  • Obama says crazy things. Like he wants to "spread the wealth around". Socialism on parade. I can't believe he acutally admitted that!
  • I haven't heard Palin "tripping over her words", but without a teleprompter, Obama is dead meat. He doesn't know what to say.
Conclusion: As Joe Biden once said, Obama is not qualified to be President.

His fake smiles and fake promises would be much more appropriate if he was wrapped up in a checkered suit.

"Pray away the gay" and witch hunts are what pass for mainstream Christianity these days?

If that's the case, Thanks for reminding me that while I may sometimes think I've been away from church for too long, it really hasn't been long enough.

No wonder why so many people get disillusioned with the US political process! Any honest and serious questions end up with flaming of this sort. The American people have become so polarized and belligerent to people with opposing views. I really don't think any of the candidates are going to bring the sides any closer together. The only thing that it seems that will do that will be another tragedy the scale of a 9/11 (and that only for a short while).

I guess the real answer to the original question, since no one really seems willing to seriously discuss it, is that people truly do not know (and/or do not care to know) what Obama really achieved prior to his run for president.

Agree with you.

But putting all emotions aside, from both Republicans and Democrats, and then looking at the voting records of both McCain and Obama, this would be the best way to decide what each of the them stands for. However, nowadays most Americans vote on "feelings" rather than logic. For example, when watching the candidates on TV (debates, etc.), most Americans see and hear only what they want to see and hear, and ignore the rest, just like when one goes on a new date for the first few times.

Nowadays it's all about emotions.

Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 570 bills in the 109th and 110th Congress.

Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 15 bills that have become LAW since he joined the Senate in 2005.

Senator Obama has also introduced amendments to 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate.

* Energy Efficiency and Climate Change (25 bills)
* Health care (21 bills) and public health (20 bills)
* Consumer protection/labor (14 bills)
* The needs of Veterans and the Armed Forces (13 bills)
* Congressional Ethics and Accountability (12 bills)
* Foreign Policy (10 bills)
* Voting and Elections (9 bills)
* Education (7 bills)
* Hurricane Katrina Relief (6)
* The Environment (5 bills)
* Homeland Security (4 bills)
* Discrimination (4 bills)
Lugar-Obama Nonproliferation Legislation (http://obama.senate.gov/press/070111-lugar-obama_non/ - broken link)
I do not have links to each of these bills, but they can be found in the Congressional Record, 109th and 110th Congress.

IMHO, one of his greatest accomplishments was speaking out *against* the invasion of Iraq--when so many other politicians were going along with it. Of course, he was not a sitting senator at the time, and, once he became Senator, his voting record reflects pragmatism rather than idealism. Sourcewatch

However, writing two books, graduating from Columbia, attending Harvard Law school, and becoming the first black editor of the Harvard Law Review, and teaching Constitutional law are admirable, as is the tremendously successful campaign he has organized and led.
