The city folk would turn on each other first whereas the country folk would at least have time to organize a defense.
You realize what we're talking about? The collapse of the democratic American government and its replacement by tyranny and anarchy. A few years ago nobody would have thought this was even possible. That is change.
Nah, to easy to keep you out. To get to the country you have to come off the Interstate and get on a two-lane road. We'd just set up defenses there and it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.
I guess the thought hasn't occurred to you that city folk will have weapons also. And they'll have a lot more weapons than you will.

No doubt about it -- the country folk got good aim and are armed to the hilt.

Country folk are not any better morally than city folk. People will turn on each other, period. Suburbanites and urbanites aren't more prone to do that than people who live in the country are. Your "us vs them" mentality is very simplistic and undoubtedly fueled by fantasy. In reality City folk win. Why? Because they have greater numbers.
Who really knows what will happen?
In a doomsday scenario i could see the government ordering a police state..
And taking guns.(they did it in Katrina). However im not sure they would want to..
Go house to house trying to take guns!
Any City will be a horrible place to be and even middle-class folks will get..
Violent when it comes to going without food.
Are we seriously discussing anarchy and who would "win" between "city-folk" and "country-folk"? I wasn't doing internet message boards back when Y2k was around. Was it like this back then too?

So what should the average guy do? The doomers say stock up on as much food as you can (among other things) But if this is as bad as they're making it out to be, isn't stocking up on 6 months worth of grub just delaying the inevitable and making it a slow death for ourselves and our loved ones? 95% of the people could barely manage 6 weeks, let alone 6 months. If it's going to be as bad as TB2K says, why stock up just to have theives pillage you to get at your stores?
1. Gloomers suggest 24 months supply.
2. Having your own cache reduces the "safety net" load on the gubmint.
3. Defending that store from predators may be a problem if you are unarmed.
4. Everyone lives until they die.
5. Failure to plan is planning to fail.

[1] A breakdown in international trade affecting the importation of petroleum would have a drastic affect. (70 % U.S. consumption imported)
[2] Anything dependent upon petroleum fueled transport will be affected.
[3] Look around, assume everything you cannot find locally will become scarce.
[4] If you can't make it, trade for it, you will do without it.
