^ This doesn't even break the down hispanic population inthe numbers, who I'm sure White Americans don't see Hispanics/latinos as white.
Secondly, a couple of the links posted doesn't even list stats on poverty along racial lines, not to mention the OP got her/his information from one link and tried to make it fact!

In 2005, 8.3% of non-Hispanic whites lived in poverty; 21.8% of Hispanics lived in poverty; and 24.9% of blacks lived in poverty.
6% of non-Hispanic white families lived in poverty; 20.6% of Hispanic families lived in poverty; and 23.8% of black families lived in poverty.
10% of non-Hispanic white children under 18 were poor; 28.3% of Hispanic children under 18 were poor; and 34.5 of black children under 18 were poor. Overall, 17.6% of children under 18 - 12,896,000 children - lived in poverty.
Not surprisingly, "Severely poor blacks (4.3 million) are more than three times as likely as non-Hispanic whites to be in deep poverty, while extremely poor Hispanics of any race (3.7 million) are more than twice as likely."

It's not a question of which group has the greatest percentage of poor people, but about whites comprising almost half of those (of any race) living in poverty in this country.
As much as I am probably with you in regards to political and social theory for why poverty exists, OP ... I have to be fair and say that % means more than total number in this argument. You have to look at what percentage of each race is in poverty. That is more telling than total numbers. But after that fact, I still agree at what you are trying to hint at.
Off topic. We are not comparing who is more likely as a percentage to live in poverty (note the thread title), nor are we discussing who is more likely to live in poverty.
The discussion is about the 21 million plus non-hispanic whites who currently live in poverty and the reasons for their existence. The only time that non-whites come into play is in the removal of the standard arguments that cause of contribute to the poverty of ethnic minorities in the U.S, because if those government programs, asocial behaviors etc are the rational, then surely a class of individuals who do not suffer from those issues of causality would be free of poverty, yet instead we fine a significant number of white Americans living in poverty with no explanation other than their own personal failings.

Again, we are not talking about comparisons of whites vs non-whites. We are talking about poverty in white America.
Think of it as a sociological examination where we look at poverty by controlling for race. If the conventional wisdom around these parts is that African Americans are poor because of social programs, a false sense of victimization then when those issues are removed we should expect not to see poverty. So what parameter is a better indicator of such a premiss than to look at a sector of the population that doesn't share that history.
