If this was for civil rights or against the war, the media would be eating it up. But heaven forbid the average american feels that they're being taken advantage of and dares to protest, suddenly they're singled out for condemnation.
Your protesting the tax rates that have been in place under Bush..Where were your tea parties that last 8 years?

I for one am protesting the current and proposed government spending.
Not saying Bush's actions were great but compare Bush vs Obama deficit projections in 10 years .....

  • Smaller/limited federal government
  • Lower taxes
  • Less spending
  • Greater accountability on the part of those who are supposed to be representing us
Most of the Tea Party organizers and attendees are fed-up with Congress passing these huge spending packages in the name of "economic stimulus" with billions of dollars in earmarks. Plus there have been a lot of expansions of the power of the federal government, just in the past year. Most of the members of the House and Senate admit to (or allude to) never having read the entire bill they voted on. We are killing the dollar and heaping tons of debt on our children and grandchildren.

Yes a lot of conservatives like myself are involved, but I'd like to believe that even liberals would want our representatives to listen to and respond to the people who put them in office. I believe that both conservatives and liberals who have any sense are worried about too much power being given to the central government. Sure, conservatives don't like Obama-appointees having so much power, but liberals need to know that expansions of government power don't easily go away. So the next time there's a Republican in office, his/her appointees will also have all that power. Right now the left dominates the congress, but the tide will always turn and in the future the left will have to deal with the right being dominant. You would think that limited government would be something we could all agree on.

You might hear in the media that the tea parties are being created by "right-wing wackos" but they are really for all Americans who want their country back. Most of us who are planning to attend or get involved are in " being in charge and the government working for us. The tea parties are for people of all political backgrounds who agree on a few core principles, even though we dagreement that this is not to be an anti-Obama or anti-Pelosi thing. We don't want to alienate the Democrats who share our concerns about "we the people agree on specific policies.
I cannot buy your point based on some footage that I've seen from a few parties, that show anti Obama signs like "not a citizen" and "socialist", at these so called tea parties.
Also, again, this point baffles the hell out of me: Why wasn't the right all up in arms about this when Bush was spending money like a drunken sailor, especially with the uneccesary Iraq War?
The left should have spoke out against the spending too, but at least they did indirectly, like war protests, the right did not do ANYTHING.

I laugh abou the taxation without representation part too. Almost all of these right wingers would be against the residents of DC, actually having a vote (on final votes) in congress.

A counter-tea party rally called "New Way Forward" here in Washington, DC was attended by less than a dozen people.

I've said it once, and i'll say it again. Liberal ideology is a house of cards. Weekend liberals were only loyal to the thought of electing the first black President. Nothing more. They can point fingers, blow it off, or laugh at Americans' right to peaceful assembly and to take their government to task, but less than 12 people show up to do that. That speaks volumes.

Because it's expressly prohibited in the Constitution. D.C. is not a state. You must have been asleep that day.

Voting is not the only way to signify your pleasure or displeasure with government! Weekend liberals with no other interest in America's future. You make my point precisely. Good job!

So are there going to be vialble options proposed at these tea parties or will they just be complain fest? Has anyone coordinating these parties offered a viable alternative? Did Bushonomics not lead us into our current predicament? Complaining about something that's been happening for the better part of a decade is very hypocritical. If we had continued on the current path, we would have went head first into a recession. No non-partisan economist or John McCain for that matter would disagree with that.
