Frankly, this is exactly the type of response expected to get, if I got one at all. Try being honest and just say, "Wow, I didn't realize that," or something along those lines. Nobody expects you to know everything, but as a FLEO, I would expect you to have enough integrity to be able to admit when you're wrong. Am I expecting too much?
The anti-gun people must hate that 42 of the 50 states have good gun laws to protect their citizens and are becoming more positive for the person who wants to carry or protect their homes.
I disagree. I think anti gun people are ignorant of the issues involved. They hear one side of the story and conclude based on that story. Worse yet are macho man language coming from gun advocates giving a wrongful impression of responsible gun owners.
Media eats it up perpetuating mythology, but stories such as the OP get ignored. Create an argument where there was none, you earn larger market share media revenue and use it as a tool to get elected (the other candidate will steal your rights). This scare mongering assault on american rights disqualifies anyone from office IMO. They aren't entitled to rob anyone of rights.
I have personal knowledge of this topic: I'm a citizen who shot, and killed, an intruder of our home.
This whacked out druggie broke in and demanded money from my wife - all while pointing a gun at her head - and with my son at her side. Hearing the commotion, I came to see what was going on, aimed my weapon at the perp, yelled something, he turned toward me with his weapon raised and I shot him - in the head.
The Police did their investigation and based on the evidence, they did not even take my firearm.
If it comes down to a law abiding homeowner and his family surviving versus a criminal surviving, I will totally side with the homeowner every time and so will every other good person out there

Those of us who know him well know he has no love lost for varmintia. As an aside, I feel it pertinant to add, that the 911 tapes from this incident were vry telling as to Mr. Hoovers mindset. His voice was dead calm, and he was very focused(so it seemed) to do what neded doing. His wife was borderline hysterical, there was a goblin smashing down his door, and he gave the phone to his wife, retrieved his weapon and confronted the intruder with lethal effectiveness. Under serious pressure his performance was exemplary. I woud not be surprised if he was a combat veteran of probably Korea or perhaps Viet Nam. They did not say what his actual age was, but judging from his voice I would put him in his late 60's to early 70's. He handled this with quiet cool, and neutralized the threat. Mindset! 99.999% of proper self defense is mental IMHO. And Mr. Hoover distinguished himself with honors. A true credit to the armed citizen

I had to turn over my weapon after the defensive shooting I had. But I was a long way from home when that happened. In a different town. The shooting was ruled as justified but I still had to go through a fairly detailed investigation. They kept my weapon for 30 days or so. Municipal rules vary, even with the 'make my day law' in place certain cities still have different procedures Seems I must have related the incident a thousand times to as many people before it was all wrapped up. It happened on the street and not in a residence to, which ...complicates ..things to a degree it seems. This is one of the reasons I carry my less valuable little .38 instead of one of my custom 1911's. If I have to turn my weapon over I would rather it not be my one of my tricked out .45's. If one of the latter were to turn up 'lost in the evidence locker' it would rather upset me as it would be hard to replace.
This is certainly worth a listen. Mr. Hoover seemed in complete control of himself, and the bad guys found out quick fast and in a hurry that he was barking up the wrong tree. The part where the 911 operator is telling Hoovers wife to tell him to 'put down his gun and wait for police to arrive'. Lol, as if they just KNEW this creep was no longer a threat? Go figure.....
