Can somebody tell her that it's not all about her. Just like her husband, they belong together.
She was talking her own pre-college experiences and observations.
Who else would that be "all about"?
Of course, she talked about much more than her own experiences; in fact, that piece of the speech the OP quotes is almost parenthetical, part of a bigger story she's telling about contributing to your community. Here's the text of her speech. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/16/us...2&pagewanted=1
Michele demonstrates again how she is just another dumb liberal operating on the basis of feelings and grudges instead of facts and opportunities. Post-secondary education in this country has always been a goal to aspire to, a horizon to race for. Since when does the "horizon" move toward the person? When is it incumbent upon the "goal" to insert itself into your life and "take a role in your development"?
Just another chip on her shoulder based on feelings ("proud for the first time"!!!) and expecting the world to kowtow to her feelings and needs. Instead of her reaching for goals, she comes back with a vengeance to destroy the original intent of the institution, or divert and confuse that intent.
Perfect illustration of why she will always remain "MeChelle".
"The University was good to give her a high-paying job..." you're not trying to condescend to Michelle Obama, are you, Mamama Mia?
Actually, Ms. Obama never worked for the university. She was employed by the hospital which is an entirely different corporation. If you wanna be technical.
You were offended, gee what a surprise. You're offended if anyone in the Obama family breathes. If they get dressed in the morning, you're offended. If they eat breakfast, you're offended.
Oh sure, Normie, you would know.... after all, you're Normie.
I was a student at the U of C when Ms. Obama was applying to college. It did not really reach out to black students and had few of them as undergrads. Black students were regularly harassed and considered to be interlopers or muggers if encountered on the quadrangle. Further, the university basically had established a vacant 'DMZ' between its campus and the community to the south.
But Ms. Obama should understand that the college did not really reach out to anyone. Its much more of a graduate institution, which she knows.
i dont think dropping security at U of C and opening up the campus to all drop in visitors is a good idea.

The hospital is the University of Chicago Hospital, technically...and check out how her position and salary changed coincidentally as her husband's political career was being "nurtured" by the likes of David Axelrod.

The U of C Hospital is not in the safest of neighborhoods. Security as I remember it was absolutely essential for all who worked there or went to school there. But, one could get an excellent medical education there. You have that on your CV and you go to the head of any list!
Born and raised in Chicago (the city, not the 'burbs).
