Who woulda thunk? We all thought putting on a phony, down home cowboy act was the most politically successful way of covering your cushy little prep-schooled background

You say this about Obama, when, in reality, that description applies perfectly to the last President.

Remember him? The moron from Texas? The one you voted for? Twice?

Yea, him. Fits like a glove

Oh really?

Well, first of all remember he was only in Hawaii for 2 yrs. until his Mom ditched his drunk Dad and ran off to Indonesia to be with another man.

Then his Mom sends him back to Hawaii when he is about 8 to be raised by his Grandmother who was a VICE PRESIDENT of Bank Of Hawaii. His "Typical White person" Grandmother sent him to Punahou. The most elite school in Hawaii.

He went there from 8-18 yrs old. Now I have no idea when the "food stamps" that he claimed he was on came into being since there was no such thing when the Mom was there with the first husband. Then it was started up as an experimental program later but Obama was already there with his Vice President Grandmother and attending Punahou.

Here, take a look at the tuition of Punahou and see if you think Obama is just like you and me. This is his grade school and his high school.
Punahou: Tuition and Payment (look on the 6th line)

By the time she was nearing retirement age, Obama's grandmother may have worked her way up to an administrative position in her bank, but she did not have any college education. She was a small-town girl from Kansas, and had only a high school diploma.
Obama's grandfather was an unsuccessful insurance salesman who brought very little income into the household.
The family lived in an apartment and never owned a home.
Obama's grandmother took public transportation to work.

Out of everyone in the family- Obama's mother, his grandfather, his mother's husband- his grandma was the only one bringing any real income into the household for the entire time Obama was growing up.
She rose to a high position in her bank through sheer tenacity and hard work. Not because she had any education, not because of a "silver spoon".
What she accomplished twenty years ago would probably not be possible today. That fact in no way detracts from her accomplishment.
She did what any of our parents could have done in the 1970s and 80s, if only they'd had her work ethic and motivation.

Obama's family was "just like us".
It's not Obama's fault that his grandmother did more with what little she had than we and our families managed to.

So you are Ok with Obama misrepresenting himself because you think Bush did it?

Nice value system you have.

Speak for yourself and your own underachieving family.
My father also didn't have a college education but rose to sr vp at a fortune 500 company strictly through hard work.

You are right though in one respect - it is no doubt impossible to do this today. Now you cannot be hired for most management positions without having at least a bs degree. The days of being able to work your way up in a company through merit is long gone.

Jane, just how long have you known Obama and his Grandparents?
Are you related or a former neighbor?
One last question...Isn't it a distraction to type with that tingle running down your leg?

Oops, almost forgot...LOL

obama's tutu worked her way up in the banking world at a time when white was a minority and being a women was something else she had to overcome to get to where she was. they lived in an apartment complex that is far from the wealthy section of town. I doubt it could be any bigger than 800 sq. ft. at most! punahou also has scholarships. anyone who knows hawaii, it's culture, it's cost of living and knows where obama lived knows he did not grow up "with a silver spoon" warmest aloha all

Put the violins down. She didn't just happen to get promoted the day before she retired. Back then not a lot of people had educations especially in Hawaii. I lived in Hawaii for 10+ yrs and back then if you had Associates degree it was HUGE. She was the VP of BOH and it was a lucrative position. So stop banging on the down to earth drum for him. He attending the top school in Hawaii and even back then the tutition was 10K + so put the Kool Aide down and realize your man isn't the down home guy like you want to believe. In Hawaii Punahou students were the snobs of the island.

Maui~ Back then, that area wasn't considered bad. It still isn't. Any apt in the Manoa/Punahou area is $$$$$$$$ AND how many apts in Hawaii are big? You are guessing on the square footage.

He didn't get scholarships for Punahou, he said that in his book. His Grandmother paid his tuition.

I had friends that went to Punahou and there was not a "poor kid" going there. Maybe Kamehamaha , but not Punahou.
