Sad? Yes

Joke? I won't not jump to that sort of conclusion. There are a lot of very angry people in this country - very angry at their Government. And the numbers are growing.

She commuted 120 miles round trip three times a week for three years and is currently teaching school.

Without AA she would definitely be in a lesser job and possibly on assistance of some sort. She used it for what it was intended to be, a helping hand for those who have no other chance.

Your point is?
She received Affirmative Action assistance because she was female. All woman, regardless of their race, are Affirmative Action recipients whether they like it or not, whether they apply for it or not.

A white male would have to go out and get a job to earn the money to pay for their tuition, they could not rely on government subsidies and taxpayer handouts like Affirmative Action recipients. Are you claiming that your friend was incapable of obtaining the tuition she needed because of her gender?

You are mistaken, Afffirmative Action is not a helping hand for those who have no other chance. It is a helping hand for all those who are not white males. A very racist and sexist government program indeed. So what does that make those who profit from government instituted discrimination, as your friend?

My point is that your friend, as with all minorities (including the President) and women, must suffer the consequences of being Affirmative Action recipients, whether they like it or not. The government singles them out for extra support specifically because it thinks less of them.

I'm surprised so many people think it's the conservative states that will secede.

The liberal states have 'state rights' grievances over more issues than the conservative states.

Regardless, the federal government would never permit a state to secede.

Wow. You've heard a lot about states leaving the union before this admin? I have not.

That said, the way things are going....I'm betting on Texas, Alaska, Wyoming, Arizona, NM in that order when things get rough. Glad I live in one of those states.

There is growing discontent in this country at the way the Feds are now running things...spend, spend, spend, followed by give away, give away, give away, followed by tax, tax, tax.....Hey, it is working in California...I'm sure it will work for the ENTIRE country (sarcasm). I heard a VERY interesting blurb today....The state of Maryland instituted a "Millionaires" tax last year and said that "the millionaires wouldn't feel it." Well last year they had 300 millionaires file taxes and this year 200 millionaires filed. Hmmmm...didn't work out the way they planned did it??? In fact, the 1.7 million dollars they THOUGHT they would raise by increasing taxes on millionaires turned into 1.3 million dollars LESS as 100 of those millionaires fled the state for more tax friendly states...sound familiar??? Think California and New York...two Democratic strongholds that follow the same EXACT policies and are now on the brink of bankruptcy!!!! Think secession can't happen......think again......like I said on a previous post...the Conservatives will take the middle of the country and take the following:
1) Our belief in hard work to get ahead.
2) Our belief in God.
3) Our guns.
4) Our belief that you don't penalize people who produce.
5) Our belief in low taxes and YOU take care of YOUR FAMILY.

The liberals can have the following:
1) All the beautiful east and west coastline.
2) The United Nations.
3) The illegal immigrants (we will build a 100 foot wall around our country on ALL sides).
4) All of the social programs you love....welfare, national health care, and generation after generation after generation of addiction to drugs, welfare, and government dependency.
5) Rosie O'Donnell and Jeanine Garofalo.

I know, I'm a crazy fringe Conservative. Actually I'm an average working blue collar guy that is trying to raise a family...college educated but have just about had it with the tax, tax, tax policy of the Dems....They have now floated that balloon about a VAT (Value Added Tax) that basically is a Federal Tax that charges 10 - 25% on top of all goods. Can you imagine??? I don't mind helping anyone when they are down....and I contribute more than my share to charities. I don't agree with everything the Republicans have to say and have read more than my share of racist offensive comments on this forum that have offended me but do believe this country is severely divided right now and secession is not out of the question. The Feds have done a good job of ensuring a lot of states are now dependent on them for assistance. God Bless Texas (I'm not a Texan by the way).
