I think it's important that people know- right off the bat- that this woman was a mentally-ill prostitute and that's why she was imprisoned.
She was not violent.
She had not committed any crime against anyone's person or property.
She was an old, mentally ill hooker.
She never hurt a soul, and never would've.
Society doesn't need to be protected from the likes of her.
If we can't protect the most vulnerable members of our society- people like her- and we systematically torture them to death instead, for no reason, by caging them in the sun without water until they die... then our society doesn't even deserve to exist.
I hope we get blown off the map, if this is the best we can do for the vulnerable members of our society.

She was at a state prison, so Sheriff Joe had nothing to do with her torture or death.

You garnered all this "information" from a month-old news story? Moderator cut: personal attacks Time, crime, remember what I wrote. Take up her "frailty" with her lawyer, not with society, and with the court that sentenced her, not society.

She hadnt been tried and convicted of whatever she'd been arrested for; she might also be a mother and a Republican fundraiser and a former local wedding shop employee.

The point is you dont often see headlines such as "Bricklayer Dies After Being Held in..."; her occupation is irrelevant to the story.

The point of the headline was to draw eyeballs. "Oooh! 'Prostitute'!"

Society allows this to systematically occur.
They did not build all those cages in the desert specifically for her.
I doubt she's even the first to die in one; it would be a miracle if she were.
Societies that condone systematic torture- especially of their vulnerable citizens- do not deserve to exist.

If only she had been a dog, it never would have been permitted.

The poor soul.

Actually she had. She was in a state prison, meaning she was convicted of a felony. People who are awaiting trial are held in county jails.

I hope these guards can be prosecuted for something - manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, something - and that some prosecutor will actually have the balls to charge them.

How about "Inmate Dies...." then? Even "Female Inmate" would have brought some of the titillation this poor newspaper seems to need to apply to attract Phoenix readers.
