Without taking sides - there was a study done a few years ago that showed some 80% of Americans identified themselves as "religious" - and to be "religious", one would also believe in a God.
As I recall, some 60 - 65% considered themselves to be "Christian" - with the remaining identifying themselves as Jewish, Muslim etc.
again proof? but if not it is okay...i actually believe you...but how many of them practiced religion...My brothers believe in God but havent been to church in about 8 years....Also, I have read more of the bible than them seeing as I used to teach sunday school in my old church. And I have studied religion to a point and seen more than they have. The atrocities done in the name of religion out weight anything my side could ever do wrong in your eyes
How many people where polled? where were they polled? what time of year was it...all of these play a factor in your proof...they could have only asked 100 people in the bible belt around the holidays. Ask everyone in this country in the middle of the summer...see what results you get...they will be considerably different.

The answers to your question(s) are there. The fact is, you don't like the answers you see are contrary to your wishes / desires / beliefs - so therefore you immediately wish to try to discredit the study. This is very clear.
Why don't you simply accept that a MAJORITY of AMERICANS believe in a GOD?
So, you may continue your disbelief that there is a God - that is your right - and I will defend your right.
But, the FACTS seem to indicate that your position - that most DON"T believe there is a God, is incorrect - that your position is CONTRARY to the facts.
Also, one does not have to believe in a god to be religious...all one has to do is be spiritual. I am spiritual...I do not believe in a higher power that created everything...and governs our morals or anything. I believe in mutual harmony with every living thing, the wind, water, and fire...I do not worship anything...best thing is...I know alot of people that beleive the same things.
I also believe that once we die it is only the beginning of a new life.

never said most done believe in a god...i said most dont practice any form of religion even though they claim it. My brothers claim to be Christians and Catholics...but I have never seen them pick up a bible or enter a church in 8 years.
Also, one does not have to believe in a god to be religious...
Well, guess what: When 74 / 75% identify with being Protestant, Catholic or LDS, they believe IN A GOD - which by such identification, destroys your position above.
and then I asked how many practice their beliefs everyday
Also, what is with the hostility...this is a friendly debate. No need to come off hostile...relax have a beer or a cup of coffee.
I never said it was wrong to believe in God just that it is wrong to force your judgment, beliefs and control on others.
How would you like it if I said it was wrong to believe in God, or go to church, get married, have kids, go to work, watch the news, play sports, drink soda, or any of the things you do in your life?
You would be doing what I am doing..and you are. You would be defending your right to do as you wish. But since no one is doing that, you focus your attention on those that have a good life, nice house, car, kids, savings, and all the things you have or want...but they live a free lifestyle.
I am only short the wife and kids...I have accomplished so much since I started living my life the way I want to. I could not be happier right now if I wanted to. I have a great life. And I do things that you and your like would consider wrong.

I have all that you mentioned above - and much more - trust me. There is no way my life could be any better - And, I live a free lifestyle also - I follow the laws that are meant for an orderly society - I even help enforce those laws. I defend those that get in trouble with the law too.
So, I would suggest that you not presume that others - who follow societies rules, can't have everything - for, you would be wrong.
