The sad thing is, 70% of the US economy is consumer spending.

What makes anybody think that's coming back any time soon? Much of the spending in recent years was fueled by the housing bubble -- people taking out cheap home equity loans from their overvalued houses, and spending the money on furniture, vacations, whatever.

People may be learning that a house is not an ATM. That means some serious contraction in the economy.

Obama is a corporatist. He's backing down to the health insurance industry. I thought I was voting for a Lion. He should be fighting for single payer....not this crap proposal.

Bush tried the "rebate" thing and got very little in return. $20/wk to people who will save it or use it to reduce debt isn't going to have the desired impacts. The sales tax break for car purchases and the home buyer credits are something, but even the home buyer credit had silly strings that limited to it to first time buyers and to a certain home price.

Reducing taxes on small business, stopping the payroll tax for a year, or capital gains reductions might have had a direct impact on employment.
I suspect you haven't really been paying attention. From the beginning, Obama was clear that the stimulus would take about two years to fully realize its potential.

I'm not saying its going to turn everything around, but it will be a piece of the puzzle (and, provide much needed infrastructure improvements and expansions).

Patience, young padwon learner. Patience.

But he was never for a single payer health care system. If you voted for him based on this premise, then you were not an informed voter.

In fact, his proposal from the beginning during the primary took a lot of heat because it did not force everybody to buy into the system.
