A government that takes control of the nation's private financial institutions;
A government that takes control of the nation's private automobile industry;
A government that takes control of the nation's private health care; and
A government that proposes registering and licensing all private firearms.
Now which nation am I describing - Present day USA under the Affirmative Action President or 1930s NAZI Germany under Chancellor Hitler?
If this Marine truly fears socialism, maybe he should instead be out there screaming that the US military be disbanded. 21% of our federal government's spending is directed at this truly socialist institution.

Even the founding fathers believed in self-defense. They were not anarchists. It's true, however, that the military's current mission is Soviet-esque.
Probably but they did not believe in a standing army.
Ahh, not really quite the truth. There was much debate about the virtue of a standing army during the beginning of our nation. What most of the founding fathers did not believe in and did very much fear was a standing army entirely under the control of the executive. That's why the gave to the congress (in other words the people) the power to raise an army or navy, the power to declare war, etc. They made sure the military wasn't under the control of one branch of government.
As to having a standing army of any type, there was much debate too. George Washington, for example, argued for a 2,630 person standing army "to awe the Indians, protect our Trade, prevent the encroachment of our Neighbors of Canada and the Floridas, and guard us at least from surprises; also for security of our magazines." In the end, the first congresses regularly voted to have a standing army.
