Cameron Diaz is half Cuban, hence also "Latin beauty". Let's face it: if you are half-black, you are called 'black', so I guess half-Latins are also 'Latin'. Eva Mendez was born in Miami to Cuban parents (both Cuban).
Is white-latin couple considered interracial? How about black-latin?
I think the original poster was specifically referring to the way things are perceived by the general public when they watch movies. That's a separate issue that I still don't have all the answers to so I'm not going to try to tackle that today.
But I did want to say that when we look at someone we don't see everything in his or her background. Haven't you noticed that many forms differentiate between white or black (not hispanic) and hispanic.
I had a black male neighbor who was married to a white woman. He was Cuban, which makes him hispanic and also Afro-Cuban or Afro-Latino. She was from South Africa, which makes her African-American. My Dominican friend married a man from India. When I went to their wedding, I couldn't tell if some of the guests were from his family or hers.
I said all that to say: race is relative; not everyone fits into a neat little race check-off box. Just my two cents for the day, though I usually try to stay away from these topics and just visit the threads with questions like what neighborhoods are closer to the interstate, condo fees, etc. LOL!
I don't see what her immigration status has to do with it. She is white South African.
Never said anything about her immigration status. Don't even know what it is. Just trying to point out that she is not African American; the definition of that term does not include black African immigrants, much less white ones.
No, if she was white South African, then she would not be African American, because African Americans are black. That is pretty clear-cut.
I don't think that African Americans=black. It has become the politically correct term for black people of African descent, but it is not always accurate. Again, race is not always clear-cut. Some whites who call Africa home do not consider themselves African; others do. My South African neighbor told me she always considered herself African. Who am I to tell her she's not?
Yup. She'll do all kinds of degrading, foul things for money on camera......but she won't do them with a black man.
Her fans and family might object.
What a racist idiot.
Doesn't make her racist, just means she isn't attracted to them.
